Overview
To perform and assist Physicians in all aspects of the Interventional Radiology Department in accordance with the established professional and departmental standards and procedures. Operates and maintains associated equipment within the interventional laboratory. Renders patient care utilizing past radiological and cardiovascular education and experience. Work requires the knowledge and skills necessary to provide direct patient care appropriate to full spectrum of patient population. Required to take call on a rotational basis.
Responsibilities
Consults with the physician concerning the procedures. Obtains patient history, lab values and clinical data. Pleasantly greets patients, confirming their identification using National Patient Safety Identifiers and introducing yourself. Provides explanations and answers questions from patient and family regarding procedure. Refers questions to physician where appropriate. Assists physician in circulator role, scrub tech role. Anticipates needs of doctor and/or scrub tech, gets correct parameters for injection and imaging, completes procedural paperwork, post processes images Assists physician in monitor role, reviewing patient history for appropriate information such as indicators which may indicate risks to the patient. Monitors patients vital signs and administers moderate sedation in accordance with hospital policy. Administer other medications under the direct supervision of the physician when necessary. Documents according to policy. Provides radiation protection to patient, staff and self according to prescribed safety standards. Complies with departmental policy regarding personal monitoring devices. Adjusts factors to minimize radiation exposure and maximize visualization of anatomy. Demonstrates complete working knowledge of Radiological Equipment. Scheduling patients for special procedures and coordinating scheduling with other areas. Maintains daily work log and routinely does follow-up on all patients. Communicates schedule and schedule changes among team members. Performs MRA 3D reconstruction. Performs visual preventive maintenance checks and quality control tests on assigned equipment and reports problems to appropriate personnel. Maintains drug inventory according to policy. Assures crash cart and drug boxes are accurately supplied and dated. Maintains necessary inventory of supplies such as catheters and guide wires, rotates stock in an orderly fashion, and eliminates outdated items. Recognizes emergency situations and can initiate code procedures or administer first aid or CPR as needed.
Qualifications
Ability to push/pull up to 150 lbs. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to wear lead apron for prolonged periods of time.
