Per diem employees may work 0-16 hours per week.
Temporary employees may be assigned to work up to 40 hours per week.

Position Description
Responsible for interviewing, screening and providing financial assistance information to patients receiving care at Jefferson Healthcare. The primary role is to connect patients to health care funding sources such as private health insurance options available in the community, assisting with application for Medicaid/DSHS and other financial assistance. Act as a steward of allocated funds when determining need for Uncompensated Care. The Financial Counselor will also provide guidance when determining payment plan options and maintenance of those accounts.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or GED required
2+ years working in a business office setting preferred; ideally financial in nature
Effective written and verbal communication skills required
Proficiency with typing and working knowledge of Microsoft Office preferred
Customer Service training and experience required
Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial Insurance remits required
Major Responsibilities
Reviews patient accounts for accuracy and completeness
Answers questions regarding patient bills and associated processes
Provides estimates for Hospital and clinic services
Coordinates collection processes with contractors when appropriate
Coordinates with financial assistance entities such as banks, credits unions, state facilities, or federal facilities to provide financial solutions for patients
Assists with financial clearance for various Hospital departments and clinics
Actively participates in staff meetings and decision making in respect to Hospital revenue cycle
Assists with department specific tasks as requested (i.e., Medicare Chart audits, marketing, etc.)
Shares concerns and ideas for the purpose of improving department, Hospital, clinic, and patient outcomes
Interface with payer to resolve issues
Responds to, resolves, and helps prevent revenue cycle issues causing claim denial for Hospital and clinic revenue cycle
Provides cash application explanation information to JH staff or patients as appropriate
Responds to patient and JH staff inquiries concerning cash application
Resolves electronic medical record work queue items in a timely and efficient manner
Works interdependently with other departments at JH to minimize patient billing and collections issues
