Position Summary
Under general supervision, the Admitting Clerk is responsible for performing a variety of specialized clerical duties related to scheduling, pre-admitting, registering, and admitting patients within Services areas.
This position serves as an important point of contact for patients, visitors, providers, and staff while supporting efficient department operations, accurate patient registration, insurance verification, and customer service. When supporting Emergency Department operations, the Admitting Clerk may be required to perform duties in a time-sensitive, fast-paced, and high-pressure environment.

Key Responsibilities
Professionally greet and assist patients, visitors, and staff while determining needs and directing individuals appropriately.
Perform patient registration, pre-admission, admission, discharge, and scheduling functions for Emergency Department and outpatient services.
Obtain, verify, and accurately enter patient demographic, insurance, and financial information into the electronic health record system.
Assist with completion and maintenance of patient registration and admission documentation.
Verify insurance eligibility and obtain required authorizations or supporting information as applicable.
Schedule patients for outpatient procedures, appointments, and services.
Perform cashiering functions including collection and posting of co-pays, payments, and fees.
Operate multi-line telephone systems and route incoming and interoffice calls appropriately.
Assist nurses and providers with coordination of patient transfers and discharges.
Maintain accurate patient records and ensure confidentiality of protected health information.
Comply with District policies, infection prevention standards, quality assurance expectations, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Work collaboratively with clinical and administrative departments to support efficient patient flow and operations.
Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Clerical, registration, customer service, or healthcare office experience preferred.
Previous Emergency Department, hospital, or medical office experience preferred.
Basic computer and data entry skills required.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.

Wage Range: Based on union placement within the listed wage range
Shift Differentials: Additional pay for evening and night shifts.
