A registered Nurse directs, by licensure, all nursing activities performed by ancillary staff assigned to the unit. Numbers supervised will vary.

** _Position Summary:_**
Emergency Department to be used in conjunction with the basic position summary for Registered Nurses.
The Emergency Department is comprised of skilled health care professionals that seek to provide a high standard of care, understanding, support and education for our patients and their families, our peers and within the community, in a caring and professional manner. This includes recognition of the importance of quality customer service to patients, visitors, and staff.
**_Summary of Major Function: _**
Emergency Department Registered nurses are responsible for the care of patients of all ages presenting to the Emergency Department seeking treatment. The care of emergency Department patients follows federal regulations, and is consistent with the New Hampshire Nurse Practice Act, and the Standards of Emergency Nursing Practice. Care of the emergency Department patient is based on the emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Standards of Care.

**_Primary Responsibilities:_**
* Initiates accurate and ongoing assessment of physical and psychosocial concerns of patients within the emergency care system.
* Analyzes assessment data to formulate nursing diagnoses and identify collaborative problems for each patient and family.
* Identifies expected outcomes individualized to the emergency patient based on assessment, nursing diagnoses, collaborative problems, and or medical diagnosis.
* Formulates a plan of care with the emergency patient and or family based on assessment, nursing diagnoses, collaborative problems, identified outcomes, and or medical diagnosis, within the nurse's legal scope of practice.
* Implements a plan of care based on assessment, nursing diagnoses and or collaborating problems, and outcome identification.
* Evaluates and modifies the plan of care based on observable patient responses and attainment of expected outcomes.
* Triage each patient and determine the priority of care based on physical, developmental, and psychosocial, as well as factors influencing access to health care and patient flow through the emergency care system.
* Clinical care of emergency department patients is performed in accordance with established LRH general nursing, and Emergency Department specific, policies, procedures, and standards of care.

**_Qualifications:_**
* Minimum of one-year of clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting preferred. Previous emergency or critical care experience preferred.
* ACLS-preferred
* PALS or ENPC preferred.
* TNCC preferred.
* CEN preferred.

* Competency (renewal)
* ACLS every 2 years
* PALS or ENPC every 4 years
* TNCC every 4 years
* CEN every 4 years
