Position HighlightsDepartment: Medical Staff OfficeHours: 40 hours per week (M-F)The Credentials Specialist is primarily responsible for executing all activities related to the appointment and reappointment of members of the Medical Staff and Allied Health Professional Staff. The Credentials Specialist will organize, maintain, and verify all aspects of the credentials process, and maintain current and complete files on Medical Staff members, tracking expiration of licenses, registrations, and certifications.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesProcesses initial appointment and reappointment applications, including screening applications and supporting documentation to ascertain applicant’s eligibility, conduct primary source verification of applicant’s training and education, licensure, certification, references, work history, insurer/claims history, and other relevant sources; conduct criminal background checks, National Practitioner Data Bank enrollment, and other relevant sources, and electronically filing all documented evidence received during the verifications process.Identifies discrepancies/red flags and conducts follow-up inquiries.Coordinates Medical Staff leadership review of application, and ensures recommendation, approval, and signature information is on file.Prepares credentials files for Credentials Committee review.Maintains the Medical Staff credentialing database, ensuring completeness and accuracy of all data entry, including demographic and clinical privilege information for use in the Medical Staff Services Department and Health System-wide.Tracks expirables and follows up with members of the Medical Staff and Allied Health Professional staff to ensure timely renewals, ensuring credentials files are accurate and current at all times.Assists the Manager with special projects and the day-to-day responsibilities of Medical Staff Services. Minimum QualificationsAssociate's Degree, with a minimum of three years in the healthcare industry, including experience in a hospital, medical group practice, or other similar healthcare environment. Knowledge of The Joint Commission standards.Excellent Data Management skills.Ability to work with a high level of accuracy and an extreme level of detail. Ability to perform responsibilities with minimal direct supervision. Possess exemplary organizational, communication, and customer service skills, with strong writing skills, and be able to compose written/electronic communication independently. Ability to work under pressure and towards strict deadlines while concurrently keeping track of multiple processes in multiple stages of completion. Exhibit excellent customer service skills and professionalism. Ability to use appropriate discretion and maintain strict confidentiality with respect to all practitioner information as applicable. Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft, Google, and Adobe applications.
