WakeMed Health & Hospitals is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Pulmonary and Critical Care Physician to join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. This role combines inpatient critical care coverage with outpatient pulmonary services, supporting WakeMed’s mission to provide exceptional care and improve community health. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellence in clinical practice, strong collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and a commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide direct patient care in adult intensive care units (medical, surgical, or mixed ICUs depending on assignment)Perform and oversee critical care procedures, including but not limited to intubation, central line placement, arterial lines, and ventilator managementLead and participate in multidisciplinary rounds, collaborating with hospitalists, specialists, advanced practice providers, nursing, and ancillary staffManage critically ill patients with complex conditions including respiratory failure, sepsis, ARDS, multi-organ dysfunction, and post-operative complicationsSupport and mentor APPs, residents, and medical students as applicableParticipate in rapid response and code teams as requiredEnsure compliance with evidence-based protocols, clinical guidelines, and quality initiativesContribute to performance improvement efforts, patient safety initiatives, and organizational goalsMaintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) Department DescriptionServing the community since 1961, WakeMed Health & Hospitals is the leading provider of health services in Wake County.
