Job Description

Position Summary: The main focus of the Michela Fagiolini Laboratory is to understand the mechanisms that underlie the development and plasticity of cortical circuits in health and neurodevelopmental disorders. We work in close collaboration with the Centers of Excellence for Rett Syndrome and CDKL5 Disorder. We use a combination of histological, in vivo electrophysiological, imaging and behavioral techniques. The primary responsibilities will be maintaining and genotyping our mouse colony in addition to some laboratory management and ordering and stocking laboratory supplies. In addition, the RA will actively participate in ongoing research projects. Candidates should be highly motivated, organized, detail oriented and have analytical skills and excellent interpersonal skills. A solid academic background in neurobiology, biology, coding, math, and physics is preferable. Experience working with rodents is preferable and applicants must be comfortable with rodent handling and procedures. Key Responsibilities: Handle mouse colony, including breeding and genotyping (PCR), post-operative care as part of daily duty. Maintain detailed spreadsheets for colony management updated daily. Perform a variety of routine laboratory experiments and procedures, utilizing standard laboratory equipment, recording, and checking results for completeness and accuracy. Assist in troubleshooting procedures if experimental results are unexpected or quality of specimens is poor. Maintain detailed records of results and methodologies in a log or work performed. Maintain equipment, lab area and supplies in a neat professional manner. Conduct literature searches and reviews, compile information for journals and suggest uses for new techniques. Carry out all laboratory activities in compliance with applicable regulations and protocols. Attend courses, lectures and conferences to expand knowledge of research and laboratory techniques, consult with other researchers and technicians to exchange information. Contribute to the team within and between departments and organizations. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor's Degree majoring in STEM or Biology or Psychology Required. GPA 3.6 or higher preferred. Experience: Research laboratory experience in neuroscience lab preferred. The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting. Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
