We are seeking an experienced Patient Escort III to join our Emergency Department (ED) team. This role is a dedicated transporter position stationed specifically in the ED, supporting timely, safe, and compassionate patient movement throughout the hospital during high‑acuity and fast‑paced situations.The ideal candidate will have prior patient escort or transport experience and thrive in an environment that requires strong communication, teamwork, and professionalism.Location: Christiana - Newark CampusDepartment: Patient Escort – Emergency DepartmentSchedule: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Requires Every Other Weekend & Every Other HolidayStatus: Full-Time, 40 hours per weekWhy ChristianaCare?A collaborative, team-focused culture that values your contributionsComprehensive benefits including Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance403(b) retirement plan with employer contributionsGenerous paid time off to support work-life balanceExclusive Work/Life perks:Annual Care.com membershipBackup care services for dependentsRetirement planning & financial coachingWellness reimbursementsDiscounts on hotels, rental cars, theme parks, entertainment & more!Primary FunctionSafely and efficiently transport patients and clinical items to and from the Emergency Department while providing exceptional customer service and support to patients, families, and clinical staff.Key ResponsibilitiesTransport patients via stretcher, wheelchair, bed, or specialized transport equipment to and from the ED and other hospital departmentsServe as a dedicated member of the Emergency Department care team, responding quickly to transport needs in a fast‑paced environmentAssist ED clinical staff with patient transfers and positioningMaintain safety by following departmental policies, procedures, and infection prevention guidelinesPick up and deliver equipment, specimens, medication, and paperwork as appropriateAssist with care, cleaning, and maintenance of transport equipmentAct as a subject matter expert for patient transport protocols and safety standardsSupport dispatch operations as neededMaintain patient confidentiality and uphold a courteous, service‑oriented attitude at all timesParticipate in training, in‑services, and department meetings as requiredEducation & ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredPrevious patient escort or patient transport experience strongly preferredMinimum of two years of customer service experienceAbility to obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hireRequired Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesKnowledge of hospital layout and departments (or ability to learn quickly)Strong verbal communication and customer service skillsAbility to follow written and verbal instructionsKnowledge of basic body mechanics and safe patient handlingComfort using smartphones and basic computer systems (email, scheduling, timekeeping)Ability to remain professional, calm, and compassionate in high‑stress situationsAbility to work independently while collaborating closely with ED staffPhysical RequirementsAbility to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shiftAbility to push, pull, lift, and maneuver patients and equipment, sometimes involving considerable weightMust pass a back evaluation examinationWorking ConditionsFrequent patient, family, and staff interactionExposure to cleaning agents, blood, bodily fluids, and infectious diseasesFrequent handwashing requiredThis position has a starting rate of $18.08 per hour, regardless of prior experience. After six months of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $21.15 per hour. After one year of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $22.18 per hour.This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting.
