Jennie Stuart Hospital in Hopkinsville, Kentucky is seeking a supplemental PMHNP to provide psychiatric evaluation and medication management services on a 12-bed inpatient adult psychiatric unit. As part of the interdisciplinary team, you would work closely with the psychiatrist, nursing and support staff as well as social workers to develop appropriate disposition for this population. Coverage would also include unrestricted call coverage for weekdays and weekends as scheduled. * Job duties may include any of the following, depending on the specialty area and location in which the APP is working. * Obtains histories and performs physical examinations. * Diagnoses and manages acute and chronic health conditions via evidence-based guidelines. * Orders, conducts, and interprets diagnostic studies and laboratory tests. * Prescribes or recommends pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies, including controlled medications in accordance with practicing state's Codes/Regulations, State Controlled Substance Registries, and supervisory agreements. * Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including but not limited to suturing, wound care, incision and drainage, splinting, casting, biopsies, invasive procedures such a line placement, etc. in accordance with training, scope of practice and collaborative and supervisory agreement requirements. * Assists patients to maximize their abilities to cope with health and illness. * Promotes self-care, health promotion, and disease prevention through the provision of information, counseling, and education for individuals, families and groups as indicated. * Refers patients to appropriate sources of care as indicated. * Consults appropriate physician(s) for patient care needs. * Maintains a collegial relationship with the interprofessional team involved in care of the patient inclusive of the primary care physician. * Takes responsibility for assuring patient/family satisfaction with care provided. * Presents and documents patient data. * Assures the efficient utilization of resources while supporting clinical pathway implementation and compliance. * Supports the primary care physician/patient relationship. * Actively establishes primary care relationships for patients who do not have primary care physicians. * Participates in the assurance of robust communication system (including telephone communications as needed) on the admission/status updates, discharge summaries, etc. in acknowledgement of the inpatient hospitalization as a component of the continuum of care provided by the primary care physician. * Assists with relevant billing documentation and development of efficient billing processes. * Develops and participates in community outreach programs/activities. * Works to exceed national benchmarks for quality care delivery, cost containment and length of stay for various disease states. * Responsible with hospitalist team to help reduce patient length of stay by performing tasks and evaluations in a timely manner, as well as, advocating for the patient regarding system issues in the hospital preventing them from creating barriers that increase patient length of stay, i.e. timely laboratory results, radiology reports, social issues, etc. * Assures appropriate and timely referrals to an appropriate facility as indicated by the patient care needs in consultation with the primary care physician. * Plans/coordinates patient discharge and/or transfer. * Responds to the Emergency Department for evaluation and treatment of patients. * OTHER FUNCTIONS: * Prescriptive authority will include controlled substance prescriptions for medications as is compliant within the practicing state's codes/regulations -- including Indiana Code IC 25-23-1-19, Kentucky Revised Statutes KRS 218A.060-130, under the conditions set forth in KRS 314.042, and Illinois Nurse Practice Act (225 ILCS 65/65-43) and Illinois Controlled Substances Act, as administered through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR). * Collaborative physician providers and APNs/PAs will meet to discuss patient care and management and to review current literature regarding practice trends as needed. * Collaborative physician providers will evaluate the prescribing practices of the Advanced Practice /Physician Assistant by random, regular review. * Competencies: If applicable and not listed below, please refer to the department for required competencies. * PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES: * Attends lectures, meetings, and conferences to maintain knowledge of current trends in a particular area of expertise. * The Advanced Practice Nurse/Physician Assistant must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards appropriate to the individual Advanced Practice Nurse/Physician Assistant.
