##### **Summary** ##### The Phlebotomist is responsible for blood specimen collection from patients of all ages in accordance with the department and hospital's safety policies and procedures. ##### **Duties and Responsibilities** ##### These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned. * ##### Collect blood specimens from venous and capillary sites using approved equipment and procedures * ##### Identify patients per established patient identification protocols * ##### Utilize the laboratory and hospital computer systems to run and audit collection lists, sort the workload, and follow up on pending dispatch specimens * ##### Accession blood and body fluid specimens by entering appropriate data into the computer and labeling per established protocols * ##### Complete pre-analytical processing steps by centrifugation when appropriate and delivering specimens to the technical departments for testing * ##### Process specimens for reference labs by centrifugation, aliquoting, and completing order entries * ##### Utilize proper isolation techniques according to hospital policy * ##### Utilize the Hospital Information System accurately while performing all functions assigned to this job classification * ##### Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services * ##### Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care ##### **Education and Experience** ##### **Minimum Required Education:** High school diploma or equivalent ##### **Experience:** Recent working experience as a Phlebotomist is preferred, but will consider new graduates ##### Certified as a Registered Phlebotomist (CPT), Medical Assistant, EMT or Paramedic preferred. BLS required.
