Nursing Professional Development Specialist - Emergency Department Department: Emergency Dept NursingHours: 36.00 per weekShift: Shift 1Position SummaryThe Nursing Professional Development Specialist acts as a facilitator of learning, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for scientific inquiry, and a partner for practice transition to improve healthcare outcomes. Facilitates collaborative partnership and promotes evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives.Meets the standards in accordance with established hospital, State, Federal, Joint Commission standards.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesUnder general direction:Promote high standards of care and model/mentor new and experienced staff. Assesses, plans, directs and evaluates educational needs for the clinical care area(s) assigned.Provides educational programs based on the needs identified in the clinical care area.Develops/modifies the clinical orientation program of all new nurses, including cross training to the different areas as designated.Ensures that the educational needs of all shifts are addressed. Ensures competency of staff by serving as resource by assisting in the development of individual nurses to maintain staff competency.Presents formal and informal education to the nursing staff, patients and family in clinical setting.Presents classes related to clinical specialization to staff, students and other health care professionals as needs are identified.Collaborates with Nursing leadership, Infection Control, Quality Improvement, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to identify educational needs and provide online education support to clinical staff.Ability to problem solve and make decisions; in addition to exercise self-control and tolerate stress when dealing with multiple requests and/or conflicting demands from multiple customers.Serves on committees/task forces.Participates in professional organizations in order to expand knowledge base and develop professional contacts.Adheres to all Core Values (Compassion, Pursue Excellence, Cooperation and Collaboration, Upholds Honesty, and Supports Innovation).Adheres to all Absolutes (Privacy and Confidentiality, Professional Appearance, and Responsibility and Commitment). All other job related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in NursingANPD (Association for Nursing Professional Development) certification required within two years Preferred Qualifications: Master of Science in NursingDemonstrated knowledge of education methodology such as needs assessment, curriculum development, instructional design and principles of adult learning.Must possess excellent communication, teaching, group facilitation and presentation skills, teamwork and flexibility is needed adapting to changes in work environment and accepting supervisory feedback.Ability to work at a fast pace and to prioritize multiple assignments/projects and respond to Needs minimal sustained direction in assessing needs, directing staff and carrying out departmental and professional responsibilities.Able to be flexible with time. Working hours may exceed eight hours per day and is based on what is needed to accomplish work at hand.
