This is a hybrid position and may work from home up to two days per week. This role is responsible for facilitating patient access to therapy, including benefits investigation, prior authorization, appeals coordination, and financial assistance navigation.Working collaboratively with pharmacists, technicians, and office support staff, the Pharmacy Technician II ensures timely therapy initiation and continuation by managing access-related workflows, resolving barriers to care, and maintaining accurate, audit-ready documentation. This position contributes to program performance, regulatory compliance, and improved patient outcomes by executing standardized processes aligned with specialty pharmacy accreditation standards.Principal Duties and ResponsibilitiesConduct comprehensive benefits investigations to determine coverage, restrictions, and patient financial responsibilityPrepare and submit prior authorizations and reauthorizations with complete and accurate clinical documentationCoordinate and track appeals in collaboration with pharmacists, providers, and payers to support timely access to therapyFacilitate patient enrollment in financial assistance programs (copay cards, manufacturer programs, foundations), including application completion and renewalsMaintain ownership of assigned access cases from initiation through resolution, ensuring timely follow-up and progressionIdentify and resolve access-related barriers such as coverage denials, payer requirements, and affordability challenges; escalate complex or clinical issues as appropriateCollaborate with providers, payers, manufacturers, and internal team members to expedite therapy access and prevent delaysManage assigned worklists and tracking systems, ensuring adherence to turnaround time expectationsTrack and document case status across the access lifecycle, including authorization, approval, denial, appeal, and financial assistance outcomesAccurately document all activities in the EHR and/or designated systems in accordance with audit and accreditation standardsSupport monitoring of operational and quality metrics such as turnaround times, approval rates, and time to therapyIdentify workflow inefficiencies and participate in process improvement initiativesProvide operational support to Clinical Pharmacists and Clinical Pharmacy Specialists, ensuring efficient communication and handoffsMaintain compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, accreditation standards (e.g., URAC, ACHC), and technician scope of practiceMinimum Education and Experience RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredPharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification requiredAt least 3 years of experience in retail pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, ambulatory care, medication access, or managed care requiredPreferred Qualifications:Experience managing complex prior authorization and appeals casesExperience in a clinic setting or team-based care model with pharmacistsExperience with financial assistance programsExperience working with high-cost or limited distribution medicationsWhy ChristianaCare?At ChristianaCare, we are committed to delivering high-quality, innovative care that improves the health of our communities.
