JOB TITLE: Master Carpenter (Licensed) DEPARTMENT: Plant Operations REPORTS TO: Facilities Director JOB SUMMARY The Master Carpenter is responsible for maintaining the aesthetic, sanitary, and structural integrity of the facility#s interior and exterior throughout the hospital. They perform highly skilled and advanced carpentry to include construction, installation, repair structures, casework and furniture while adhering to strict infection control, hygiene and fire-safety standards unique to a medical environment. This role also performs routine maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs on equipment, tools, furniture, and building systems. The Carpenter follows all assigned tasks and work orders as directed by the Facilities Director while complying with hospital safety policies and infection control standards. JOB REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Required to have passed an approved ICC National Standard exam for Class A Commercial or Class B Commercial and Residential Contracting and have at least sixty (60) months of experience as a general contractor, journeyman carpenter, or similar work that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and proficiency needed to act in the capacity of a general contractor. This is required to be able to be registered with the City of Cody as a General Contractor. Must be willing to work beyond normal hours and in other positions temporarily when necessary. Required to be available for emergency situations. Required to be part of On Call rotation. EXPERIENCE Five years of professional skilled carpentry from rough-in to finish carpentry in a commercial, industrial, or healthcare facility preferred. SKILLS Must possess a high degree of confidentiality in all matters with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy. Must have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with staff and public in a friendly, courteous and helpful manner. Exhibit high moral standards to reflect the attitude of the facility. Effective conflict resolution skills and sound judgment, including the ability to make rapid, accurate decisions under pressure. Must be able to interact effectively with a wide variety of people. Ability to work harmoniously with team members and across departments, following instructions while also working independently when needed. Strong problem-solving skills, including identifying and addressing issues such as waste of supplies, misuse of equipment, or operational challenges. Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multi-task and adapt to changing workloads or emergencies. Effective computer and keyboarding skills. Must have ability to learn and use Microsoft Office Suite products including Word and Outlook. Ability to learn new computer software applications. Strong attention to detail and commitment to high moral and professional standards, reflecting the facility#s values and mission. Knowledge of aseptic technique and infection control principles. Familiarity with potential hazards, including bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, and hazardous or infectious waste. Maintain professional personal conduct, appearance, and hygiene appropriate to a hospital environment. Knowledge of facility maintenance, preventive maintenance, and safe working practices, including the use of power equipment. Ability to troubleshoot and perform basic repairs as needed. Perform all duties in a manner consistent with safety principles. Must be highly motivated and exhibit a positive attitude towards the mission of their department and the facility as a whole. REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS Required to register as a General Contractor with the City of Cody. Must maintain a valid clean Wyoming Driver#s license. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Master Carpenter Duties Performs skilled carpentry by following instructions, rough sketches or detailed drawings interpreting blueprints and specifications in the construction, repair, maintenance and alteration of all CRH buildings including walls, doors, door closures, floors, windows, ceilings, roofs, stairways, partitions, hydraulic door closures and all related fixtures. Builds rough wooden structures such as barricades, boxes, concrete forms, scaffolds and wooden framework for use in various parts of the building. Accomplishes a variety of finish work by trimming, fitting and installing windows, doors, sheet rock, moldings, baseboards, paneling, etc. and performing other finish work as required. Lays flooring including tile and carpet. Installs cabinets. Calculates quantity of materials needed, selects stock, tools and supplies for the repair of hospital buildings. Safely operate woodworking machines, hand tools and power tools. Responds promptly to maintenance requests and urgent repair needs. Rigs staging or erects scaffolding. Maintains equipment and work areas in a clean and safe environment in all areas for patients and employees. Properly stores, cleans#and disposes of all supplies and equipment used according to departmental policies and procedures. General Duties Maintain a safe and clean environment throughout all areas of the hospital and all external campuses for patients, visitors, and employees. Conduct regular inspections of buildings and grounds to identify maintenance, safety, or operational issues. Assist with room setups, furniture moves, and minor installations. Follow all safety, infection control, facility policies, and regulatory compliance requirements. Document work that is performed and report major or unresolved issues to the Facilities Director. Support contractors and vendors during repairs, maintenance, or renovation projects. Must be able to learn other areas to assist in the areas of electrical, HVAC, fire alarm, etc. to help support the facility. Maintain quality improvement (QI), testing, quality control, and departmental records as required. Demonstrate knowledge of and compliance with facility and departmental policies and procedures while exercising independent judgment, critical thinking, and discretion to perform duties effectively with minimal supervision. Meet attendance and punctuality requirements. SECONDARY FUNCTIONS Participate in mandatory and continuing education programs and stay current with new procedures and technology. Attend and participate in all department meetings. Serve on facility committees as appointed by the Facilities Director. Remain organized in job functions to prevent errors, omissions, and incomplete work. Maintain necessary inventories to support uninterrupted facility operations. Support and participate in the facility#s preventive maintenance program. Coordinate workflow with other employees and managers to promote a productive and efficient work environment. Actively participates in CRH Compliance Program, demonstrating compliance with required laws and regulations, and ensuring departmental compliance with regulatory requirements. Maintain appropriate records as required by regulations, as well as facility records necessary for following established policies and procedures. Perform duties in a manner consistent with safety principles. Communicate through actions, work performance, and professional conduct the Mission, Vision, Goals, and Philosophy of CRH. Maintain a good working relationship with all coworkers and the public and use good judgment in recognizing scope and authority of position. Other related duties and activities may become necessary or as directed by the Facility Director. Duties and responsibilities may change based on facility needs.
