Job Description
The Security Officer will provide a secure environment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for Fergus Falls Hospital and buildings adjacent to the hospital. The Security Officer may be scheduled for 8 and/or 12 hour shifts depending on the schedule needs. Security Officers will utilize de-escalation techniques and only measures that they are legally trained to provide to ensure a safe and secure environment for staff, patients and visitors. The Security Officer interacts with hospital employees, visitors, and patients. They will always be professional, courteous, and uphold a higher standard of conduct. The Security Officer has access to confidential information and must maintain confidentiality and abide by all HIPAA regulations. The Security Officer must adhere to all safety and security related policies and procedures. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Conduct routine security checks inside and outside the building, ensuring doors, windows, grounds, and parking areas are secure, and document any issues. Stay alert to suspicious activity, report concerns on the checklist, and notify police when necessary; submit reports daily. Support staff safety by monitoring parking areas, escorting employees when needed, and maintaining a visible presence during shift changes. Carry communication devices at all times and remain accessible so staff know security support is available. Perform additional duties such as monitoring facility conditions, assisting departments, running approved errands, responding to emergencies, and helping patients and visitors enter the building (non-medical assistance only). Hours/Shifts Casual (less than 32 hours biweekly) Compensation Hourly Wage Range: $18.15 -$21.86/hour. Please note that final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications and internal equity considerations. Education/Special Skills: To perform in this position satisfactorily prefers a high school or equivalent level of education, and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. A background in Security, Law Enforcement or Military Service is highly desirable. This position requires current Healthcare Provider level CPR certification upon hire or must be obtained within 6 months. CHSO (Certified Healthcare Security Officer – IAHSS Basic Level) certification or requirement to successfully obtain within 90 days from hire date. IAHSS Healthcare Safety certified or requirement to successfully obtain within six months from hire date. IAHSS Advanced Level (Certified Advanced Healthcare Security Officer) CAHSO certification or requirement to successfully obtain within one year from hire date. For employees that are not hired with the required certifications, Lake Region Healthcare will cover the cost of the course and first exam. If unsuccessful in completing after the first attempt, future attempts will be at the employee’s expense and continued employment is contingent upon successfully completing the certification programs within the required timeframe. Successful completion of the pre-employment health screening process is required.
