**Position Summary**
The Emergency Department (ED) Nurse Manager is responsible for the leadership, staffing, quality, operational performance, and financial management of the Emergency Department. This leader ensures the delivery of safe, timely, evidence-based emergency care while promoting patient-centered service, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.
The ED Nurse Manager maintains 24/7 accountability for department operations and provides leadership in support of patient flow, throughput, quality outcomes, and staff development. The Manager works collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, ancillary departments, and hospital leadership to ensure exceptional care for patients presenting with emergent and urgent healthcare needs.
The Emergency Department Nurse Manager participates in the nursing leadership call rotation (nights and weekends shared with other nurse managers) and serves in Manager of the Day (MOD) responsibilities.
**Key Responsibilities**
* Provide direct supervision, coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluation of Emergency Department staff (includes nurses, health unit coordinators and ED technicians)
* Ensure appropriate staffing levels based on patient volume, acuity, arrival patterns, and regulatory requirements.
* Support recruitment, onboarding, orientation, competency validation, and retention of nursing and support staff.
* Oversee daily operations of the Emergency Department, ensuring compliance with CMS, state, and other applicable regulatory standards.
* Collaborate with providers, clinical supervisors, and inpatient departments to support efficient patient flow, admissions, transfers, and discharges.
* Lead initiatives focused on emergency department quality metrics, patient safety, and operational performance.
* Monitor and improve key performance indicators including patient satisfaction, door-to-provider times, length of stay, left-without-being-seen rates, sepsis care, stroke care, and trauma readiness.
* Support development and implementation of triage processes, standing orders, clinical protocols, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
* Manage departmental budgets, including labor, supplies, equipment, and productivity.
* Maintain readiness for emergency preparedness events, mass casualty incidents, and disaster response activities.
* Collaborate with EMS agencies, regional healthcare partners, and community stakeholders to support continuity of emergency care services.
* Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
* Maintain consistent communication with staff through meetings, rounding, education, and feedback.
* Provide 24/7 accountability for Emergency Department operations and respond to emergent operational issues as needed.
* Participate in the nursing leadership call rotation (nights and weekends shared with other nurse managers) and Manager of the Day (MOD) responsibilities.
* Demonstrate presence during off-hours and weekends to support staff, patients, and department operations.
* Represent the Emergency Department on hospital committees and councils, including Quality, Patient Safety, Emergency Preparedness, Trauma, Throughput, and Professional Practice.
**Qualifications**
* Current RN license in New Hampshire required.
* BSN preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
* Minimum of 5 years direct Emergency Department staff nursing experience.
* Minimum of 3 years of progressive nursing leadership experience in Emergency Nursing Care
* Demonstrated knowledge of emergency nursing practice, regulatory requirements, quality improvement methodologies, and patient throughput principles.
* Experience with staffing management, budgeting, and performance improvement initiatives preferred.

* ACLS
* PALS
* TNCC within 6 months of hire
* ENPC within 12 months of hire
