Job Description
The Laboratory Assistant accurately and effectively performs clerical and support duties as directed by department leadership. Key functions include promoting department efficiency, ensuring timely laboratory reports, and maintaining regulatory compliance for records organization, retention, and quality control Essential Functions Conducting POC Glucometer orientation, education, and monitoring, including troubleshooting and obtaining replacement meters Printing monthly QC reports for review and performing glucometer linearity checks every six months Publishing department education topics, documenting staff completion, and revising procedure manuals Updating and maintaining laboratory policies and procedures electronically, ensuring biannual reviews and signatures Preparing monthly blood and urine culture contamination rate reports and daily/monthly data for turn-around-time reports Monitoring reference lab results for EMR scanning and reviewing chain-of-custody drug screen paperwork Ordering and stocking phlebotomy and laboratory supplies and maintaining laboratory employee files Preparing and updating personnel phone call and disaster call lists and performing EMR audits for transfusion reactions and blood bank issues Assisting in the interviewing, hiring, and supervision of phlebotomists, and preparing monthly phlebotomy schedules Performing data entry for COVID tele tracker on weekends and assisting with COC drug screen collections and specimen processing Being available 24/7 for phlebotomy staffing issues or questions
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education High School Diploma or GED Work Experience Three (3) years relevant experience
