SUMMARY: The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Supervisor is a clinical and operational leader responsible for the strategic oversight, deployment, and performance of APPs within Surgical Services. This role combines direct patient care with protected administrative time to support workforce planning, operational efficiency, quality improvement, and program development. The APP Supervisor partners closely with physician leadership, nursing, and hospital administration to optimize care delivery, enhance patient outcomes, and support surgical volume growth. The APP Supervisor plays a critical role in aligning APP practice with organizational priorities, including throughput, financial performance, and high-reliability care. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Clinical Leadership & Patient Care Provides direct patient care across the surgical continuum, including first assist in the OR, inpatient management, and perioperative care Ensures high-quality, evidence-based care delivery across APP practice Establishes and standardizes clinical protocols in collaboration with physician leadership 2. Workforce Planning & Operational Management Develops and manages APP staffing models to support surgical volume, coverage needs, and operational efficiency Oversees scheduling, deployment, and daily assignment of APPs across OR, inpatient, and perioperative settings Optimizes workflows to improve throughput, reduce delays, and enhance care coordination Anticipates and plans for growth in surgical demand and service line expansion 3. Performance Management & Metrics Defines, tracks, and manages key performance indicators (KPIs), including LOS, OR utilization, throughput, readmissions, and APP productivity Implements data-driven improvements to enhance efficiency and outcomes 4. Development & Culture Mentors APPs to practice at top-of-license Contributes toa collaborative, high-performing team culture 5. Strategic & Financial Alignment Aligns APP utilization with financial and operational goals Supports cost-effective staffing models Contributes to service line growth strategy 6. Education & Program Development Oversees onboarding and training programs Coordinates ongoing education and certification maintenance Supports implementation of best practices 7. Cross-Functional Collaboration Serves as liaison between APPs and stakeholders (physicians, nursing, case management, ancillary services) Facilitates communication across departments 8. Quality, Safety & Compliance Ensures adherence to policies and regulatory standards Leads quality improvement initiatives Promotes a culture of safety and accountability Performs other duties as assigned. EDUCATION: PA-C or NP from accredited program NCCPA, ANCC, or AANP certification MA licensure eligibility DEA eligibility BLS and ACLS certification EXPERIENCE: Minimum 5 years clinical experience in surgical/hospital setting Leadership experience preferred SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Provides functional guidance for Up to 3-4 FTE APPs (scalable based on program growth) Pay Range: $154,793.60-$208,956.80 EEO Statement: Brown University Health is committed to providing equal employment opportunities and maintaining a work environment free from all forms of unlawful discrimination and harassment.
