Job Description

SUMMARY: Performs routine diagnostic radiology procedures, to include outpatient, emergency department, intraoperative, portable, C-arm, inpatient and fluoroscopic exams. Provides routine radiology services to patients of all ages, including neonates, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients. Participates in department and interdepartmental quality improvement activities. Provides safe environment for patients, employees and visitors: - Utilizes lead shielding protective devices and radiation monitoring devices (badges), as appropriate. - Utilizes radiation exposure coning devices, as appropriate. - Practices aseptic techniques and infection control procedures. - Practices radiation safety at all times. - Demonstrates ability to transport patients safely and efficiently, as needed.- Utilizes lead markers at all times. - Conducts visual checks of equipment prior to each use to ensure safe condition Performs arthrograms and myelograms. Performs C arm procedures and x-rays in the OR. Prepares room and assists radiologists for fistulagrams and cystograms. Performs GI’s, SBFT’s, and IVP’s.- Adult GI, SBFT, IVP- Child GI, SBFT, IVP Prepares contrast and barium materials: - contrast/barium administration for adults - contrast/barium administration for children. - contrast/barium administration for infants. Provides technical assistance to radiologists and OB/GYN’s for hysterosalpingograms. Demonstrates ability to load, unload and process films through processor. Demonstrates ability to perform processor QC, as necessary. Processes images through the CR Unit and demonstrates ability to utilize the workstation. Demonstrates competency in using the digital PAC system in retrieving and merging images Operates C-Arms and various portable x-ray units. Introduces self to patient, confirms patient’s name and exam to be done. Explains procedure to the patient:- explains exam to adult- explains exam to adolescent- explains exam to child Sets appropriate technique factors for properly exposed radiographs for all age groups-adult, children & infants. Utilizes immobilization or securing devices- pigostat for infant- papoose board for child- bed rails/other devices for adults Monitors patient’s condition during examinations. Stocks and cleans work area. Performs all office functions, to include RIS/SMS order entries and scheduling. QA’s and verifies patients in the RIS. Moves film appropriately within the RIS system. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation, or equivalent, and satisfactory completion of formal radiologic technology training of two years duration. Ability to meet the requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT). Holds a valid State of Rhode Island Radiograher License. Current CPR certification. Must be able to stand/ squat1-3 hours and walk 3-7 hours, frequent twisting and moderate bending and lift over 50 lbs with good body mechanics. Must be able to use both hands/wrists and perform frequent fine motor skills with moderate repetitions. Requires accurate near and far vision at 20/40, accurate depth perception and discriminate between red-green and blue-violet.
