Position SummaryThe Laboratory Informatics Specialist supports the administration, maintenance, and optimization of the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and related interfaces. This role works closely with Laboratory, IT, Clinical, and Revenue Cycle teams to ensure accurate laboratory data flow, system functionality, regulatory compliance, and efficient workflows. Responsibilities include system configuration, troubleshooting, reporting, and support for laboratory information systems and interfaces.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and support the Meditech LIS module and laboratory test dictionaryBuild and maintain in-house and reference lab tests (including Mayo)Assist with Microbiology and Blood Bank LIS modules as neededMaintain and troubleshoot interfaces between Athena, Meditech, reference labs, and analyzersSupport analyzer interfaces and review system updates during Meditech upgradesEnsure accurate LOINC coding and IMO dictionary maintenanceGenerate QA and operational reports using ExcelSupport laboratory charge processing within the B/AR moduleAssist with system upgrades, validation testing, audits, and downtime proceduresTroubleshoot HL7 interface issues and support Health Information Exchange requirementsEnsure compliance with CLIA, CAP, and HIPAA standardsServe as liaison between Laboratory, IT, Clinical departments, and external partnersProvide documentation, reporting, and occasional after-hours support for system updates
Qualifications
Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s preferred (Health Informatics, Clinical Laboratory Science, Healthcare IT, or related field)3–5 years of experience supporting LIS or EHR systems in a healthcare settingExperience with Meditech LIS preferredKnowledge of laboratory workflows, HL7 messaging, and system interfacesProficiency with Excel (including Pivot Tables) for reporting and analysisStrong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skillsHigh attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and compliance
