Location: Mariposa, California – Gateway to Yosemite National Park Department: Clinics Openings: 1 Representation: This is a Union represented position and is represented by AFSCME Local 2703.
Position Summary Under general supervision, the Referral Coordinator is responsible for coordinating specialty care referrals and surgical procedure scheduling in accordance with physician orders. This position ensures timely and accurate processing of referrals, verifies patient eligibility and benefits, and provides excellent communication and support to patients regarding their appointments. The Referral Coordinator also maintains accurate logs and documentation for internal and external audits.
Key Responsibilities: Coordinate specialty care referrals, diagnostic testing, and surgical scheduling per physician orders. Verify patient eligibility and insurance benefits for all referrals before processing. Schedule appointments within the required timeframe and notify patients of date, time, and location. Generate referral documentation and ensure accuracy in the electronic health record (EHR). Prepare referrals and related materials for Utilization Review Committee review. Maintain tracking systems and logs for all referrals to ensure completion and audit readiness. Respond promptly and professionally to patient and staff inquiries, escalating complex issues as needed. Collaborate closely with clinic staff, providers, and external specialists to coordinate patient care. Maintain confidentiality and compliance with all HIPAA, infection control, and quality assurance standards. Support departmental goals and assist in continuous improvement of referral and scheduling workflows.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting preferred. Knowledge of referral coordination, medical terminology, and insurance verification strongly preferred. No specific licensure or certification required.
