Job Description
Summary The Patient Transporter is responsible for the maintenance and quality of patient care within Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. ##### Essential Duties and Responsibilities 1. Adhere to Service Excellence Standards and Expectations at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. 2. Exhibit excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers. 3. Exhibit courteous communication skills and an ability to work with others, exercising good judgment in performance of job duties. 4. Demonstrate courtesy, compassion, and respect to others in adherence with the hospital's philosophy and policy for promoting positive workplace and customer environments. 5. Work as a team to continuously improve work quality. 6. Confirm patient identification prior to transport by verbal confirmation and identification band on inpatients. ##### Summary of Other Job Duties and Expectations 1. Must be competent and knowledgeable in regards to the needs and concerns of individuals in various age groups (pediatrics to geriatrics). 2. Document and alert the Radiology Supervisor/Director and/or Lead of the malfunction of various types of medical equipment used in the performance of job duties. 3. Make recommendations to the Transport Lead/Radiology Manager/Director as to additional transport, IV poles, and oxygen equipment needed to operate the department. 4. Make recommendation to nursing staff on how to use proper transport modes for patients. 5. Recognize emergency situations and initiate code procedures and CPR if necessary. 6. Assure proper handling of patient's IV and other medical devices during transport. 7. Notify nursing units when leaving and returning with patients and utilize ticket to ride. 8. Assist in the movement of patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, beds, and radiographic tables, utilizing safety procedures and correct body mechanics. 9. Clean and initiate repairs as necessary on all transport equipment. 10. Fill oxygen tanks as needed and check oxygen regulators for proper operations prior to use. 11. Utilize proper isolation techniques according to Hospital policy. 12. Assist patients to and from stretchers, wheelchairs, and radiology equipment to include CT/MRI scanner. 13. Review patient's ticket to ride and verify physician's orders prior to patient transport to the department. 14. Attend in-services, hospital-wide orientations, and other meetings as required. 15. Communicate equipment malfunctions and low inventory levels to the appropriate supervisor. 16. Rotate call as needed. 17. Present self in a positive manner, as reflected by personal attire and etiquette. 18. Demonstrate a commitment to flexible scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care. 19. May be cross trained as needed. 20. Perform other duties as assigned. ##### Supervisory Responsibilities * Reports to: Radiology Supervisor, though may also be assigned work from the Radiologist or PCT Lead. * Supervises: None * Responsibilities: N/A ##### Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
