Job Description

The Oncology Nurse's main duty is to supervise and provide direct care for patients with complex cancer-related problems and diagnoses. Monitor patient's condition, develop care plans, develop symptom management protocols, administer medications and perform telephone triage daily. Oncology nurses play a significant part in the health care team working in all aspects of cancer care continuum. The oncology clinic nurse serves as a patient advocate, recognizes that individuals with cancer have complex needs and are aware that specialized body of knowledge and skills is the basic to provision of high quality of care. The oncology nurse is a hybrid position who works in both the oncology clinic and the infusion department. While in the infusion department, assists in coordination of patient care with multiple providers of varying specialties. Maintain a safe and therapeutic patient care environment. Provides and oversees direct patient care during administration of IV therapies including but not limited to: biotherapies, antimicrobials, analgesics and hematology support. **Qualifications** : * Current Oregon Registered Nurse license without restriction * Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (CPR) required * Current American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required * Fundamentals of Infusion Therapy (FIT) training or one year infusion therapy experience. **General Information:** * Infection Prevention and Control Measures * Knowledge of Patient Rights and Advance Directives * Cultural Competency/ Diversity Equity and Inclusion * Safety Measures in Infusion Department Setting * Managing Analgesia: Assessment, Administration and Monitoring * Pain and Comfort Assessment/ Management * Antineoplastic Infusion Guidelines including response to hazard spill. * Intravesical Medication Administration * Blood & Blood Product Administration * Infusion Nurse Society (INS) Standards of Practice **Physical Demands and Work Environment:** * Ability to lift 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. * Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently * Needs ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on telephone * Requires frequent use of computer * Must demonstrate manual dexterity * Occasional exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue, communicable diseases, chemicals, including but not limited to sticks or cuts by needles and other sharp items.
