Salary Range: $42.63 - $73.61 per hour based upon union contract

Position Summary: The Clinical Data Abstractor’s primary responsibility is the abstraction of data from
clinical documentation and patient records for submission to various oversight bodies or programs including
but not limited to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Foundation for Health Care Quality
(FHCQ), WA State Dept. of Health (DOH), WA State Hospital Association (WSHA), Surgical Care and
Outcomes Assessment Program (SCOAP), and the hospital’s accrediting organization. Additionally, the
position will focus on Continuous Quality Improvement throughout the organization by reviewing and managing
data outcomes to identify trends, data accuracy, and new metrics for improvement. The incumbent will present
data in various committees providing both training and education as needed to the healthcare team. The
Clinical Data Abstractor will stay up to date with all CMS and other regulatory requirements and organize the
implementation of new measures or reporting changes. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for
supporting the Physician Peer Review process, Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE), and
Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) programs. Accountable to the Director of Quality, Risk, and
Compliance.
Job Requirements: Must have a valid Registered Nursing License with a minimum of two (2) years of
experience in a health care setting; Current Quality experience strongly preferred. Strong clinical knowledge
base, specifically in anatomy, physiology and medical terminology; Proficient computer skills including query
tools, web-based applications, word processing, spreadsheets, graphs, and PowerPoint. Working knowledge
of National and WA State quality and patient safety measures. Excellent written and verbal communication
skills; Ability to meet and communicate with medical staff and the public in a courteous and professional
manner. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Experience working with an electronic medical record
(EMR) system. Understanding of the principles, purpose, and methods of the professional practice evaluation
processes and peer review.

Department projects and improvement initiatives; Identify improvement opportunities to optimize patient care
and safety; Provide data analysis and support to various departments within the organization; Stay up-to-date
with the latest trends and technologies related to healthcare data abstraction; Must be able to problem solve,
critically think, and adjust priorities to meet deadlines and requests.
