Fertitta Family College of Medicine at the University of Houston.JOB SUMMARY: The Nurse Patient Educator I (NPE I) provides self-management support utilizing teaching/learning principles, strategies, tools, and interventions to develop informed and engaged patients.The NPE I educates patients/families and team members using the nursing process, knowledge and skills. The NPE I communicates and collaborates with patients/families and team members and uses resources and systems to enhance patient outcomes.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Degrees:Bachelor of Nursing Licenses & Certifications: a) Registered Nurse; current license or valid permit to practice professional nursing in Texas.b) Certificate: in related specialty, in a related specialty, completed within two (2) years of hire datec) Basic Life Support from a hospital- based American Heart Association (AHA) or Red Cross approved program.d) Other certificates as required by unit/service.Work experience: Two (2) years of work experience in a related clinical area of practice. One (1) year patient education experience.Language Skills:Bilingual Skills preferred in other areas (except ACS) Communication Skills:Exceptional Verbal (e.g., Public Speaking) Writing/CorrespondenceWriting/ReportsProficiencies: MS Word, P.C., TypingJob AttributesKnowledge/Skills/Abilities:Analytical Abilities, Medical Terminology Knowledge, Research Knowledge and Abilities, Statistical Knowledge and AbilitiesWork Schedule: FlexibleOther Requirement:a.
