Jefferson Healthcare (www.jeffersonhealthcare.org) is looking for a dedicated full time, part time, per diem, temporary Registered Nurse to join our growing Surgical Services team as a surgical circulator.
Per diem employees may work 0-16 hours per week.
Temporary employees may be assigned to work up to 40 hours per week.

Position Description
The RN is responsible for providing nursing care adapted to the individual patient needs based on the nursing process which includes: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. He or she promotes continuity of care to ensure that patient needs and expected outcomes are met. The RN must be capable of functioning as a member of the team and perform duties as necessary. This includes delegating and supervising support nursing staff that participates in the provision of care.
Education and/or Experience

Current Washington state RN license in good standing
Current CPR/BLS (Healthcare Provider) and ACLS required (or obtainable within 90 days of employment), CNOR preferred
Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
Specialty areas may require additional experience, certifications, and licenses

Two (2) years of circulating experience preferred
Two (2) years of PACU/Med Surg/ICU/ED experience preferred
Endoscopy experience preferred

20 minute ON CALL response time availability required

Surgical Services at Jefferson Healthcare is a place like no other. We enjoy a tight knit work environment where we care about our patients as well as each other. There are spectacularly gorgeous sunrises and views of the Cascade Mountain Range and Mount Rainier beyond the Puget Sound right from the back hallway of the OR. We are regularly open M-F and provide one team for 24/7 call coverage after hours. Surgical Services encompasses a Pre-Op Clinic, Surgical Short Stay Unit, 3 OR Suites, 1 Endoscopy Room, PACU, and Sterile Processing that sterilizes all the instrumentation of Jefferson Healthcare including the OR, the hospital and all the clinics. Our service lines include General, Ortho, Urology, OBGYN, Endoscopy, and minor Cardiology procedures and on average we perform 100 surgeries a month, 60 endoscopies a month, and over a hundred total hip and knee replacements a year.
The circulating RN is responsible for providing nursing care that is adapted to the individual patient needs utilizing the nursing process. This includes but is not limited to assessment, planning, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the patient and the environment. The circulating nurse works inside the operating room as a patient advocate. This individual promotes continuity of care to ensure that patient needs and expected outcomes are met. Responsibilities include managing patient care inside the operating room, assisting the team in maintaining and creating a safe environment for the patient and providing documentation of the care provided. The RN must be capable of functioning as a member of the team and perform duties as necessary. This includes delegating and supervising support nursing staff that participates in the provision of care.

Major Responsibilities

Collects data pertinent to the patient's health or the situation. Completes nursing history and physical assessment upon admission
Reassesses the patient during shift as patient's condition requires. Assesses subtle changes in patient status, anticipates problems before they occur, and implements appropriate measures
Manages comprehensive nursing care for patients whose needs range from uncomplicated to complex and can be rapidly changing. Specialty areas may require additional experience.
Organizes and prioritizes nursing care activities considering the needs of the patients and other staff members
Collaborates with all members of the interdisciplinary team to improve care delivered to assigned patients
Operates unit specific equipment and procedures as outlined in defined competencies
Initiates, plans and participates in patient and family teaching, and provides professional nursing care within the legal scope of practice and standards developed by the profession, Nurse Practice Act and regulatory agencies
Identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or the situation. Utilizes the physicians' history and physical progress notes and notes from other specialties: Pharmacy, Respiratory Care, Physical Therapy, Nutrition, etc., to plan care.
Implements the identified plan of care. Ensures that the plan of care is coordinated to achieve the desired outcomes. Teaches the patient about his or her illness and promotes health. Consults other nursing experts or the patient's physician as needed. Makes age-appropriate interventions based on individual patient needs. Evaluates progress toward attainment of patient clinical outcomes and adjusts the plan accordingly.
Initiates a discharge assessment on admission and works as needed with Case Management to develop a discharge plan for assigned patients. Assists case manager with implementation of plan.
Demonstrates a caring, compassionate approach to patient/family, functioning as a patient/family advocate
Participates in case conferences, rounds, etc. to communicate the plan of care, interventions utilized and the outcomes achieved
Evaluates one's own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines relevant statutes, rules and regulations. Assumes personal responsibility for professional development and contributes to the professional/learning environment of the unit.
