Position Purpose:
Twelve (12) month post-graduate educational training program under the guidance of advanced pharmacy preceptor(s). Through our program, you will gain the skills, knowledge, and confidence to become a highly qualified independent practitioner equipped with the ability to deliver exceptional patient care. Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residents are assigned to advanced preceptors and are responsible for providing pharmacy services including monitoring patient medication regimens and providing appropriate interventions. The PGY1 Pharmacy Resident work in collaboration with the health care team, actively participating in rotation activities throughout the pharmacy department. Residents will participate in multidisciplinary meetings and bedside rounds. Residents will complete self-evaluations throughout the program and complete a residency project in the form of a written manuscript at the end of the residency. Residents who are in good standing, complete all of the goals and objectives, and satisfactorily complete all assigned work and assignments will receive a certificate of successful program completion.

Minimum Requirements:

Education:
Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharmacy Doctorate

Licensure:
Licensed in the State of Arizona is required. Residents need to have started the licensing process which allows the practice of pharmacy in the state of Arizona (intern license, pharmacist license, or temporary pharmacist license), before start date; residents are assigned appropriate work tasks during licensure processing

Certification:
BLS certification through American Heart Association or American Red Cross

Pharmacy Department:
Our department encompasses over 60 employees to serve our population’s health. These are exciting, busy times in our Pharmacy as we strive to provide a full suite of pharmacy care services from acute care and transitions into ambulatory, home, and telehealth care areas. A solid infrastructure to support our pharmacy services is in place, with our current focus to optimize and integrate our services. These service focus areas include: Inpatient, Emergency Department pharmacist direct patient care, Care Transitions – medication reconciliation/meds to beds prior to hospital discharge, outpatient and specialty pharmacy drug distribution, 340B Program and financial integrity expansion, oncology clinical model expansion including oral chemotherapy and pharmacogenomics, PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program, Stewardship-Antimicrobial and Opioid, and expansion of our pharmacist collaborative practice model Disease Management Clinic.
