The ICU cares for a wide variety of critical patients with complex medical conditions- including respiratory failure, sepsis, renal failure, induced hypothermia, and prolonged intermittent renal replacement therapy. The ICU team works in collaboration with the dedicated stroke unit to provide award winning advanced stroke care. We maintain a fast pace to meet the needs of those in the most acute phases of cardiac disease. Common cardiac procedures/diagnosis seen in ICU include post open heart surgery, severe decompensated heart failure, cardiogenic shock, STEMI, aortic dissection, and acute severe valvular dysfunction. Daily care and responsibilities may include managing various life-support systems including ventilation, heart monitoring, and lifesaving medications. The ICU RN should show respect, empathy, and exhibit strong communication skills with patients, families, and other health care professionals. Comprehensive and inclusive training and for new graduate RN. 12 week orientation with a designated preceptor.
