Job Description

ob Summary:
Under the direction of the Director of Security and Security Supervisor. The Security Officer performs a variety of security and safety related functions while involved in the safeguard of employees, patients, visitors and property. Provide parking enforcement and traffic control for all patients, visitors, and employees throughout hospital property. Gives appropriate assistance to all when needed or requested.
Key Responsibilities:
Security and Safety: Enforces procedural rules and regulations. Ensures the personal safety of staff, visitors, patients, and property of Oneida Health. Maintains security and safety to assigned areas. Maintains working knowledge of the locations of various departments, buildings, access routes, and admitting requirements.
Patrols assigned areas including all buildings within the main campus, including but not limited to the hospital, support areas, clinic, storage facilities, parking lots, and affiliated properties within the Oneida Health system. Checks for suspicious occurrences.
Operates and monitor security control panel alarms, surveillance cameras, and related security equipment to provide property, area, and visitor security.
Issue photo identifications for all new employees and replacement of old IDs for existing staff. Checks ID cards of persons entering the facility. Refuses to admit persons who cannot show either proper authorization or cause for being admitted. Provides information and directions. Explains rules and regulations.
Opens and closes facility, ensuring that users have left the premises. Reports security and general maintenance problems to the proper authorities. Controls access to all locked areas, allowing access to authorized personnel only. Conducts night watchman patrols and special patrols required by standing or special instructions. Maintains proper logs and activities as per policy.
Takes immediate action when codes or other emergencies arise on the campus.
Monitors, detains, restrains, and effectively manages disruptive or combatant patients.
Reviews all hospital policies and procedures at least once per year and provide feedback to the Security Director on needed or recommended changes to existing or new policies.
Responds to all pages received within 5 minutes of the page, responds to emergencies, all codes, and spills.
Contacts the On Call grounds crew for snow removal at pre-designated times and amounts.
Coordinates and is in attendance at all helicopter take-off and landings as required by hospital policy and insurance carrier.
Parking and Enforcement: Enforces parking and policy procedural rules and regulations. Ensures parking is provided for patients, visitors, and staff through effective enforcement of applicable polices.
Enforces parking rules and regulations. Checks vehicles in patient and private parking lots for authorized parking sticker. Issues parking violation warnings, and tags and requests towing as per policy.
Performs patrols of parking lots or maintains watch at designated parking areas for assistance and enforcement.
Assists patients, visitors, and staff when requested for lockouts, flat tires, jump-starts, and other such situations. Maintains quiet and order in all public places on the campus.
Investigations.
Responds to and investigates situations reported to the Security Office regarding theft, vandalism, damage to vehicles, drug diversions, and missing persons.
Completes necessary information and maintains a log of all incidents that occur during the course of each shift and may use computer terminal to input and retrieve data.
Assists all law enforcement agencies when requested or required within the boundaries of hospital regulation, policies and procedures and HIPPA regulations. This will include locating employees, various types of information, brief relief for guarding inpatient prisoners, etc.
Reports all MVA’s or Personal Injuries to the Director of Security and Security Supervisor, complete all necessary documentation, reports, descriptions, and photos to assist in the investigation by outside agencies.
Calls Police Department or other authorities if required. Maintains liaison with local police agencies and assists in investigations as required and prepares reports on findings.
Security and Inventory Control.
Responsible for lost and found items and maintenance of applicable logs and records.
Receives and maintains patient valuables in safekeeping for the duration of the hospitalization the patient utilizing proper double bag and signature procedures. Maintains records and logs. Check identification, power of attorney, etc. if a family member or friend of the patient signs for the valuables.
Performs similar or related duties as requested or directed.

Education:
High School Diploma or GED (Preferred)
Experience:
Security, law enforcement or Military (Preferred)
Licenses and Certification:
NYS Driver’s License (Required)
NYS Security Guard License or a Law Enforcement Certification within 90 days of hire (Required)
Must have or obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification or equivalent within 120 days from date of hire (Required)
Must have or obtain Basic Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) Certification (pepper spray) and Basic Handcuffing Techniques within 120 days from date of hire (Required)
