### **Position Overview**

Launch your career with a paid summer internship at Salinas Valley Health, an award-winning 263-bed acute care hospital serving Monterey County.

The intern will support data collection, surveillance, and reporting related to healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) to help improve patient safety outcomes. Responsibilities include assisting with environmental rounds, monitoring compliance with infection prevention protocols, tracking data trends, and supporting quality initiatives. The intern will work closely with Infection Prevention staff while contributing to a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

### **Primary Responsibilities**

* Assist with collection, tracking, and reporting of healthcare-associated infection (HAI) data
* Support infection surveillance activities and help identify trends
* Participate in environmental rounds to ensure compliance with infection prevention protocols
* Observe and document adherence to cleaning, disinfection, and sterile storage standards
* Assist with maintaining and updating key infection prevention metrics
* Support quality improvement initiatives related to patient safety
* Help create and update educational materials (posters, flyers, digital content)
* Attend team meetings and document key takeaways
* Provide general administrative and project support to Infection Prevention staff

### **Program Eligibility**

* Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate degree program

* Preference given to Junior and Senior-level students

* Must be available to participate in at least **8 weeks** of the 10-week program

* Interns will be matched with projects based on their academic field of study

### **Work Schedule**

* Up to 30 hours per week

* Internship duration: 8–10 consecutive weeks

* Schedule: Monday – Friday, based on organizational needs
