We will use this value to create a positive, helpful and supportive place for our patients to receive care.RequiredQualifications:High school diploma or GEDBLS certification (can be obtained within 3 months of employment)Fluent in EnglishPC literateAbility to meet physical demands as stated in - “Physical Demands and Environmental Work Conditions” at the end of this purpose descriptionKnowledge of inventory maintenance and controlExcellent human relations/communication skillsOne (1) year work experience, preferably in a health care settingMust be a strong team playerDuties and Responsibilities:Manages own time and work to assure readiness for patient careUnderstands and follows through with directions from appropriate sourcesMaintains BLS certification and other Anesthesia equipment-related skillsFollows unit/hospital policies and proceduresMaintains positive working relationship with peers, customers, and physiciansMaintains close liaison and rapport with other hospital departmentsForwards special requests/capital requests to OR Manager/Anesthesia for processingWorks calmly and efficiently in stressful or emergency situationsResponsible for Anesthesia equipment in various hospital locations: OB, DSU, X-ray, etc.Assists anesthesia with prepping of patients prior to their surgical procedure, (i.e. assist with block placements, intubations etc.)Assists anesthesia and surgical team in preparing the surgical suite for procedures - this includes set up for new cases, being available to the team for patient care, (i.e. positioning, prepping) and clean up after cases. Prior to the start of the procedure and during the procedure the Anesthesia Technician is accessible by phone should additional supplies or equipment be needed.Maintains and cares for equipment and instruments using proper cleaning and sterilization methods – reporting repairs and needed maintenance to the appropriate parties as they ariseStocking of departmental supplies as determined by procedure volumes and anticipated usage in scheduled proceduresConfirms all carts, supplies, machines and equipment are fully stocked and in working order prior to leaving each dayFloats to unit secretary, unit scheduler and surgical care assistant position as deemed necessary by staffing situationsEach employee is responsible for implementing SJRMC’s Service Standards into their daily work:Safety, Courtesy, Effectiveness, and StewardshipOther duties as assignedPhysical Demands and Environmental Work Conditions:All Peri-Operative Services jobs may place heavy physical demands on the employee. The amount of time that the employee is exposed to these demands will fluctuate, as there are uncontrollable variables inherent in healthcare i.e.; patient’s height and weight, patient’s level of cooperation and strength, specific clinical needs, etc.Physical Activities:All Peri-Operative Services jobs may require lifting/pushing/pulling varying weights (may exceed 200 pounds)Activities may include intermittent or prolonged: standing, walking, sitting, talking, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching with armsRepetitive motions may also be required, such as: wrist/hand movements, grasping, and finger dexterity (as in typing, writing, faxing, filing papers, etc.)Work Environment:The job requires the risk of exposure to the following environmental conditions: hazardous chemicals, anesthetic agents, body fluids and waste, blood borne diseases, infectious and contagious diseases, risk of electrical/mechanical shock, risk of burns and cutsExposure to unpleasant patient or unit elements, (i.e. accidents, injuries and severe illnesses)The noise level may vary from very quiet to very loudSensory Requirements:The employee will need to be able to hear:Alarms on equipment, fire alarms, and overhead announcementsPatient/family verbal discussionsInstructions and feedback from other healthcare providersThe employee will need to be able to see:Focus on close-up and distant objectsDistinguish colorsHave intact: peripheral vision and depth perception
