Job Requirements Position SummaryThe Director of Spiritual Care and Education have the responsibility for the Spiritual Care and Education Department. The Director will lead, plan, organize and manage Chaplaincy Services for the acute care SRHS hospitals which meet the spiritual needs of patients, families, staff, and the community. Minimum Requirements Education Master’s degree in divinity/theology or equivalency from an accredited school (ATS).Experience Three or more years in hospital and/or healthcare setting with responsibilities for spiritual services programs.Three to five years of management and leadership responsibilities.License/Registration/Certifications Ordained and in good standing with one’s faith tradition.Ecclesiastically endorsed from the official endorsing agency of the Chaplains faith or denomination at the time of appointment and maintain such endorsement for the duration of employment.Certified or certified eligible (seeking board certification) through the Association of Professional Chaplains, the National Association of Catholic Chaplains, or the National Association of Jewish Chaplains, or the Spiritual Care Association.ACPE Certified Educator in good standing and able to conduct all levels of CPE.Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to work with all faith traditions.Strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Preferred RequirementsPreferred Education N/APreferred Experience Three to five years’ experience of previous management of a Department of Spiritual Care in a Level One Trauma Center.Preferred License/Registration/Certifications ACPE National Faculty Core Job ResponsibilitiesProvide leadership and direction to the Department of Spiritual Care and Education to meet the spiritual and religious needs of patients, families, and staff.Actively participates in the delivery of spiritual care, provides regular visits with patients, and ensures requests for chaplaincy care are responded to in a timely manner.Develop and implement policies and procedures that ensure that the spiritual and ethical needs of patients, family and staff are adequately addressed.Develop and maintain proper administrative procedures for department in accordance with organizational policies.Oversee religious activities and programs within the hospital, including religious worship, pastoral care, and spiritual counseling.Oversee chaplaincy education, orientation, and training programs.Functions within the facilities policies and procedures for Spiritual Care.Represent the hospital demonstrating the mission and values in all interactions with local clergy and religious organizations. Supports an interdisciplinary approach to chaplaincy care and develop positive and collaborative relationships with other departments.Align chaplaincy services to support the hospital's strategic plan, programs of distinction and quality goals.Collaborate with Patient Experience Team and other hospital leadership in implementing Patient and Family Centered Care practices.Recruit, select, orient, educate, supervise, evaluate all members of the chaplaincy staff, and ensure appropriate schedule coverage.Ensures Chaplaincy documentation meets all regulatory standards.Responsible for the departmental budget, and management of all foundation accounts, grant proposals and management of grant funding, and all other aspects related to finance for the department.Participates in programs and administrative activities of the institution.Ensure professional development activities for all chaplains of the acute care hospitals.Performs related duties as required.Provides sacraments and rituals of the religious community to patients, families, and associates.Assists and supports patients/families with end-of-life education and care.Makes referrals for patients seeking ministry from their religious community.Supports associates as they experience spiritual or emotional stress.
