Job Requirements Position SummaryThe Internal Medicine Clinical Pharmacy Specialist is responsible for collaborating with managers and staff of the Pharmacy to optimize clinical and operational pharmacy services as the service line leader for acutely ill general medicine patients throughout the healthcare system. The Internal Medicine Clinical Pharmacy Specialist is responsible for providing direct patient care by proactively impacting pharmacotherapeutic decisions through interdisciplinary collaboration with physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff participating in the care of general medicine patients throughout the healthcare system. This position may serve as the pharmacist for a multi-disciplinary rounding service, comprised of physicians and medical students, in addition to pharmacy learners. Additionally, the Internal Medicine Clinical Pharmacy Specialist is responsible for contributing to the educational initiatives of the health-system including, but not limited to, staff development and student and resident precepting. The Internal Medicine Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will also be responsible for managing quality improvement and research projects in area of specialty. Minimum RequirementsEducationDoctor of Pharmacy DegreePGY2 Internal Medicine or Pharmacotherapy ResidencyExperienceOne year of experience as a health-system pharmacistLicense/Registration/CertificationsCurrent license with the South Carolina Board of Pharmacy or eligible – will work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist until license obtainedPreferred QualificationsExperienceThree to five years’ experience as a health-system pharmacistLicense/Registration/CertificationsBoard certification in area of specialty (Pharmacotherapy)Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification Core Job ResponsibilitiesExcellent verbal and written communication skills required.Ability to work with other health care providers, through interdisciplinary rounding and other patient care activities, to optimize medication regimens using evidence-based medicine and standards of care.Compound, prepare, label, and dispense medications (sterile and non-sterile) for all age groups according to accepted standards of practice as assigned.Interpret medication orders, monitor drug regimens, and perform interventions when order clarification is necessary or when therapeutic problems are identified.Seek opportunities for collaborative, interdepartmental process and workflow improvements. Generate unique but workable and useful solutions to resolve difficult problems.Design and facilitate educational initiatives for pharmacy and interdisciplinary staff.Precept students and residents, as assigned. Participate in residency recruiting and application process.Design and execute quality improvement projects. Demonstrate the ability to implement new programs/improvements with minimal supervisory assistance and develop metrics to assess the impact of changes made.Ability to effectively manage multitask operations / projects, prioritize, and meet deadlines.Supervise support personnel in a consistent manner.Responsibly and accurately manage financial resources. Consistently follow applicable financial guidelines, regulations, principles, and standards.Ensure customer satisfaction.
