Job Requirements Position SummaryThe Assistant Director of Nursing helps to organize and direct the administration of the nursing facility under the direction of the Director of Nursing. Applies the management concepts of planning, organizing, collaborating, and directing activities to implement the clinical nursing program in defined areas. Ensures policies and procedures are followed to comply with Federal, State and local laws, regulations, codes and current practice standards. The Assistant Director of Nursing has delegated authority to take immediate and appropriate action in the event of an emergency where there is clear and present danger that poses a threat of personal injury, or a threat of damage to property or equipment in the absence of the Director of Nursing and within the scope of the Registered Nurse. The Assistant Director of Nursing assists with recruitment, retention, training, and continuing education of department staff. Must be able to provide and understand the specific communication, developmental, treatment needs of patients, families, and visitors ranging in age from early adult to late adult. Minimum Requirements Education RN degree requiredExperience 2-3 years Long Term Care or Healthcare Leadership experienceLicense/Registration/Certifications RN licenseBLS Preferred RequirementsPreferred Education BS in NursingPreferred Experience 3-5 Years in Long Term Care Supervisory experiencePreferred License/Registration/Certifications ACLS Core Job ResponsibilitiesResponsible for communicating and reporting to Director of Nursing a daily shift report.Fills in daily staffing needs as they arise.Works with scheduler to ensure appropriate number of staff are working as related to resident acuityLiaison between staff and medical providersAssists with making provider list each week for NP and MDProviding in-service programs that contribute to meeting nursing objectives and policies, and procedures in compliance with state and federal regulationsProvide clinical support to facilitate and support the nursing process in resident interventionsAssist in maintain a safe, hazard free, and sanitary environment for residents, associates, and visitorsParticipates in the implementation of the resident care planning process to comply with resident needs and regulatory agency requirementsRegular rounding on nursing units, on all shifts to assess performance of nursing staff and monitor the quality of care provided to residentsAssists in maintaining all logs required for federal and state regulationsAssists with Infection Prevention tasksParticipates in internal audits of nursing practices and in developing and implementing a plan of correction when deficits are identifiedParticipates in ensuring all facts of the nursing budget are within established budget parametersFills in in staffing when needs arise in the scope of their degreeParticipates in QAPI and improvement process activitiesMaintains nursing department staffing at a level congruent with resident needs and budgeted positionsAssists with scheduling of outside resident appointmentsEvaluates performance for all levels of nursing service associatesCommunicates effectively with supervisors, unit secretaries, Education Coordinator and Nursing Home Administrator about the daily findings as applicableAssists with reportable conditions to the appropriate state agencies within the 2-hour time framesParticipates in the on – Call schedule for Nursing Leadership GroupRounding on all units/residents daily and report findings to appropriate staffActs as a clinical resource or facilitator for resident situations as they ariseIdentifies clinical problem areas on behalf of the Director of Nursing and assists with development of plans of correctionSafety concerns are identified, and appropriate actions are taken to maintain and assure resident safety and a hazard free environment Works with Educator to ensure that all nursing department staff members are educated and utilize infection prevention practices that protect associates, residents, and visitorsAssume responsibility (with in scope of practice per SC Nurse Practice Act) for the Nursing Department in the absence of the Director of Nursing and reports all issues to the Administrator in a timely manner. A Registered Nurse will also be on call in the absence of the Director of Nursing or the Administrator.Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation and revision of all facility policies, standards, and procedures Organizational: Monitors and controls noise on nursing units to ensure professional conduct and appearanceMaintains a clean, neat, and organized desk area to facilitate workflow, ensuring confidential and PHI information is properly securedAssist with the annual competencies for all associates in coordination with the Director of Nursing, Education Coordinator and Nursing Home Administrator and other departments as required.Rounds on units continually through out shift to ensure quality care is being provided, answering staff and family questions.Equipment: Skilled in data entry – Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel Skillfully operate and maintain computer, printer and fax machines, telephone system AHT (American HealthTec) computer systemEPIC medical recordQuality:Routinely maintains standards of the Long Term Care, CMS (Medicare and Medicaid Services), DHEC and other licensing and regulatory agenciesDemonstrates practice to maintain a safe environment and reports safety issues for residents, visitors, co-workers, and selfAssists staff in doing a SREO when neededAssists wound care nurse when needed for supportRecognizes risk management situations and reports them in a timely mannerPromptly reports equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel; uses chain of command when reporting problems/concernsDemonstrates compliance with policies regarding HIPAA, resident and resident confidentiality, confidentiality of facility information and residents’ rights and responsibilities.Successfully completes initial orientation and annual required computerized training, competencies and annual health evaluationDevelopment:Attends unit staff meetings, applying knowledgeable of facility’s policies and procedures, medical terminology and specific services of departmentsCoordinates policies and procedures pertaining to associate education.Identifies and actively supports positive relations within team and across department lines; maintains an open and positive attitude by a willingness to participate in new initiativesOther duties as assigned
