Responsibilities:
Manage the care of cardiovascular patients utilizing the Nursing Process and following all established standards of practice within State and Federal guidelines. The Prep Recovery RN will be proficient in-patient assessment, preparation and recovery of patients for cardiovascular procedures. The Prep/Recovery RN will also be proficient in assisting physicians in performing bedside procedures. When assigned charge responsibilities, the Prep Recovery RN will coordinate the operating schedule and supervise unit activities. In addition, he/she will provide supervision of non-RN personnel.

Assess patient’s physical and psychosocial condition throughout the continuum of care.

Develop and communicate patient plan of care reflecting patient issues and proposed interventions to achieve desired patient outcome

Collaborate with patient, family and healthcare team in implementing plan of care
-
Evaluate patient outcomes, effectiveness of plan of care and readiness for discharge and/or continuing care. Revise plan of care as needed and appropriately refer for additional services where indicated.

Provide education as indicated after assessing the learning needs of the patient and family.

Participate in and support performance improvement and risk management activities.

Act as preceptor to new staff when requested.

Proficient in the management of patients undergoing cardiovascular procedures including Cardiac CATH, Electrophysiology, Structural Heart, and Vascular procedures

The Prep Recovery RN will screen patients prior to procedures, prepare patients for procedures, perform bedside procedures and recover these patients following their procedures.

Competent in monitoring patients s/p Anesthesia and Procedural Sedation.

Competent in utilizing the Health Information Management System/Spacelabs for monitoring and documentation purposes.

Competent in the turnover of patients in an efficient manner.

Work collaboratively with CATH EP staff to maintain adequate par levels of supplies.

Perform pre and post calls on patients undergoing procedures.
Qualifications:

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
-
Valid license as Registered Nurse in Connecticut.
-
2-3 years cardiology, day surgery, or PACU experience.

Maintain minimum of 6 contact hours annually.

Required BCLS and ACLS
