Job ProfileSummaryA professional individual contributor role that may direct the work of other lower level professionals or manage processes and programs.  The majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation or delivery of processes, programs and policies using specialized knowledge and skills typically acquired through advanced education. A specialist level role that is a recognized subject matter expert in job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience.  Typically manages large projects or processes with limited oversight from manager, coaches, reviews and delegates work to lower level professionals, resolving difficult and often complex problems. These roles focus on providing high-quality patient care and promoting wellness. APCs work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare professionals to diagnose and treat a variety of acute and chronic conditions. In addition, this role focuses on conducting primary health services to women throughout the lifespan including gynecological care, family planning services, preconception care, prenatal, postpartum, childbirth, care of the newborn and treatment of partners. Including gynecological physical exams and assessments.Job OverviewThepositionperforms and supervises services in a designated area according to the policies, procedures, philosophy, andobjectivesof the department and of the hospital. Works cooperatively within the department and other services to create a system of quality health care. Thepositionis an advanced practice nurse who is responsible for the assessment, plan, implementation, and evaluation of nurse midwifery care delivered to gynecologic, antepartum,intrapartum, andpostpartum, and newborn patients. Thepositionperforms physical exams,collectsand documents data, manages labor and spontaneous delivery, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules lab studies and professional consultations, and prescribes medication and interventionsappropriately.​Job DescriptionMinimum Qualifications:1.Master’s degree in Nursing.2.Basic Life Support Certification.3.One (1) year of experience.4.Controlled Substance Registration Certificate and DEA Registration Number.5.Maintainsmedical malpractice insurance.Preferred Qualifications:1.Three (3) years of experience.Duties and Responsibilities:Theduties and responsibilities listedbeloware intended to describe the general nature of workandare not intended to be an all-inclusive list.Other dutiesand responsibilitiesmay be assigned.1.Providesdirect inpatient clinical services and management ofmotherand babies as defined in the hospital’s standing orders, policies,proceduresand protocols for the certified nurse midwife.2.Performs inpatient rounding for antepartum and postpartum patients.3.Manages uncomplicated vaginal deliveries.4.Assists the physicians in cesarean sections as needed.5.Orders and interprets Non-Stress Tests (NST) appropriately.6.Provides occasional on-call coverage when agreed upon withmedicaldirector.7.Obtains patient health histories and complete physical examinations.8.Ordering and interpretingappropriate diagnosticand lab tests.9.Assess patient for change in status and institute appropriate interventions.10.Providespatient and family education related to prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn,interconceptional, and age-appropriate well woman care.11.Utilizescurrent research and evidence-based decision making in all clinical practices.Physical Requirements:1.Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking.2.Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfer patients and equipment.3.Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching.4.Frequent exposure to hazardous chemicals, sick patients, bodily substances, noise andpossible exposureto radiation, lasers, electric shock, etc.5.Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne diseases and other transmissible infections.6.Contact with patients underwidevariety of circumstances.7.Subject to varying and unpredictable situations.8.Handle emergency and crisis situations.9.May have contact with hazardous materials.Skills & Abilities:1.Possessesand applies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.2.Ability toprovideprimary care for a caseload of patients according to practice guidelines and hospital policies,proceduresand protocols.3.Possessesand applies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
