Job ProfileSummaryThis role focuses on activities related to the support services functions, such as dietary and food services, environmental services, general facilities, repair and maintenance, parking,sterilization and transportation to ensure all required support activities are completed in a timely mannerand meet the organization's quality standards and expectations.In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Transportation duties: Organizes the transportation for hospital shuttles and any travel needs hospital administration may need andprovidessupport on the transportation of patients.An organizational related support or service (administrative or clerical) role or a role that focuses on support of daily business activities (e.g., technical, clinical, non-clinical)operatingin a “hands on” environment.The majority oftime is spentinthe delivery of support services or activities, typically under supervision. An entry level role that typically requires little to no prior knowledge or experience, work is routine or follows standard procedures, work is closely supervised, and communicates information that requires little explanation or interpretation.Job OverviewResponsible for transportation of patients to and from various departments as assigned.May assist with equipment requests, oxygen rounds, and other support tasks to aid the performance of the department.Job DescriptionPreferred Qualifications:1.High School diploma or equivalent.2. Prior experience in healthcare.3.Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.Duties and Responsibilities:Theduties and responsibilities listedbeloware intended to describe the general nature of workandare not intended to be an all-inclusive list.Other dutiesand responsibilitiesmay be assigned.1.Ensures the safe,timelyandaccuratetransport of patients to their destination includingbringthe proper requested equipment.Ensures the comfort of the patient by being attentive; offers blankets, checks modesty, and only engages inappropriate conversationinvolving the patient.2.Assists patient care staff andutilizesproper body mechanics when lifting and transferring patients to and from wheelchairs,stretchersor beds.3.Notifies nursing personnel, clinician,technicianor reception upon arrival for patient. Verifies correct patient identification.Alerts nursing staffimmediatelyto any signs of patient distress or equipment malfunction.4.Completes transport quickly and efficiently;immediatelynotifies appropriate staff and leader when assignments areinitiatedand completed. Meets all performance related standards including response, active and completion times.5.Disinfects transport equipment before and after use according to policy and manufacturer instructions for use.Removes linen,disinfectsand makes up stretchers upon completion. Returns equipment to proper location.Collects and returns wheelchairs and stretchers to the proper holding areas. Ensures that medical waste is disposed of according to established infection control and prevention procedures.6.Checks all equipment for proper and safe functions before use.Promptly reports any ineffective or broken equipment to unit leadership.7.Interacts with other system teams appropriately.Keeps appropriate staff and manager informed of cancellations, activities, needs, and/or concerns.Notifies Directorof potential situations and unreasonable response times.8.Adheres to all policies, procedures and standards established by all regulatory agencies including but not limited to Federal, State, Joint Commission, OSHA, and CDC.9.Takes initiative whenobservingpatients waiting in corridors to go back to their rooms by notifying dispatch and transporting patient.10.Conducts daily rounds to ensure equipment isproperly stored.11.Ensures compliance with policies and procedures for departmental operations.12.Assists in orienting,trainingand developing transport associates.Physical Requirements:1.Standing or walking a majority ofshift, bending and lifting and other physical effort with medium weight equipment or supplies (30-35lbs.)2.Pushing and pulling of beds, wheelchairs, stretchers, etc. (up to 60 lbs.).3.Able to maneuver wheelchairs and stretchers in order to safely transport patients.4.Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation tooperatecomputer keyboard.5.Frequent contact with professional and other staff. patients and visitors.6.Frequent exposure to dust, dirt, blood, body waste and contaminated waste.7.Possible riskof cuts, needle punctures, and strains.Skills & Abilities:1.Ability toproperly usephone and pager.2.Acts as a positive role model;possesses,integrity, focus, commitment, flexibility,diplomacyanda teamspirit.3.Ability tooperatestretchers,wheelchairsand patient beds to safely move patients throughout hospital.4.Able to communicate both verbally and in writing in English.Able to follow written and verbal instructions.5.Able toidentifyscope of task and perform it ina timelyand efficient manner.6.Ability to read, write, perform simple mathematicalcalculationsand have basic knowledge of physical sciences at a levelgenerallyacquiredthrough a high school education.At Tufts Medicine, we want every individual to feel valued for the skills and experience they bring.
