JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Directors of the Poison Center, the Poison Information Provider (PIP) is responsible for providing initial triage of calls and assisting the Poison Information Specialists in management of home calls and follow-up calls for established patients. Under the direction of the Specialists, the PIP will assist in managing poisoned patients, provide information to the public, and provide administrative support to department staff. The PIP will never be scheduled to work alone, and never in a ratio of greater than two to one, PIP to Specialist. PIPs are responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of the Florida Poison Information Center and Tampa General Hospital.
QUALIFICATIONS: High School graduate or GED and either a student in good standing in or graduate of an accredited health-science program (Pharmacy, Nursing, etc.). Must be able to use computer and office equipment and a familiarity with databases. Must have knowledge of medical terminology be able to complete the Poison Center math examination within 3 months of hire. Must have excellent phone and communication skills and comfort in seeking assistance from and/or transferring higher level calls to the Specialist when necessary or as determined by the Directors. Must be detail oriented and able to synthesize and succinctly report an interview.
