Job Description

This position also includes a $1,000 sign on bonus! This position is 40 hours weekly, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. Weekend/holiday rotation may include up to four Saturdays per year. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Performs nursing techniques for the comfort and well-being of the patient. Prepares equipment and assists provider during treatments and examination of patients. Administers prescribed medications orally and by injection. following proper procedure to ensure safe medication administration; provides treatments using therapeutic equipment; observes patient reactions to medications and treatments; changes or assists the provider in changing dressings and cleaning wounds or incisions; takes temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, blood pressure, height, and weight to detect deviations from normal and gauges progress of patient, following provider's order. Observes, records, and reports to provider the patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents * Observes, reports, and documents subjective/objective data to maintain an accurate and timely medical record, i.e., patient's condition, reaction to drugs, treatments, significant incidents, medications administered, vital signs and pain control * Observes emotional stability of patients, expresses interest in their progress and prepares them for continuing care; explains procedures and treatments ordered to gain patient's cooperation and allay apprehension * Assists the assigned provider. May be asked in his/her absence to assist another provider * Assists in minor surgery by assisting the provider, preparing the room, arranging, and cleaning instruments, and wrapping for sterilization, etc. * Cooperates with all nurses in providing quality care to the patients, works with other departments to provide seamless, quality care to all patients * May assist in other work areas (including Telephone Nursing, Float, and Specialty Services) in the absence of the assigned provider or when needed at the discretion of clinic leadership * Telephone Nursing: Additional Responsibilities include: * Prioritize and act on incoming calls from patients with regard to medical status, urgency, and age * Take messages regarding questions and medications * If a referral, x-ray, or lab order is needed, a message will be sent to the doctor's nurse in-basket for completion * The early nurse will prepare patient lab order and send to RN to sign prior to physical as per protocol * OB questions routed appropriately for immediate review. * Specialty Services: additional responsibilities include: * Prepares the patient for onsite visit by contacting the patient to schedule the visit * Schedules all post visit orders/treatments and maintains records of these orders to provide continuity of care. May schedule surgical procedures through specialist's office. Documents scheduled follow-up appointments with specialist and maintains record of this for notification or patient with date/time * Float: Additional Responsibilities include: * Prepares, compiles, and processes patient documents for use of the medical record. Contact patient as needed to communicate paperwork requirements prior to appointment * Assists in housekeeping duties (including emptying sharps containers/laundry pickup) to maintain a positive clinic appearance * Assists in triaging walk-in patients including provided shots and checking blood pressures * Counts narcotics * Complies with established policies and procedures for safety and infection control when observing and/or giving direct patient care to ensure the well-being of the patient, family, visitors, and staff. Participates in performance improvement initiatives, identifies problems, and takes action related to opportunities for improvement * Maintains exam room and workstation cleanliness according to approved infection control guidelines * Properly sanitizes equipment per guidelines. Disposes of syringes and waste according to mandated laws * Assists in screening phone calls, sending messages to providers and assisting in scheduling of patients * Checks supplies for expiration date at the time of receiving the supply, rotating stock and/or at least monthly * Performs other duties as required or assigned Competencies required include: * Distinguishes priorities in patient care and follows through with them * Demonstrates excellent problem-solving skills and autonomy * Ability to effectively operate standard medical equipment, electronic medical record software, and standard office equipment and software * Strong oral and written communication skills * Demonstrates a high degree of commitment to customer service excellence * Possess cross-cultural sensitivity * Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, building strong relationships * Ability to perform tasks both collaboratively and independently * Demonstrates concern for patients of all ages, visitors, and co-workers * Maintains confidentiality of information and privacy compliance Physical Requirements: Medium Duty: exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects (based on U.S. Department of Labor data). The following physical activities are required to perform this job: Occasionally (up to 33% of work time): Standing, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, crouching, smelling, color vision. Frequently (34-66% of work time): Walking, carrying, stooping, reaching, handling, fingering, talking, hearing, near acuity vision. Education and experience required: * Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state of Minnesota * Or certification as a Certified/Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) in the state of Minnesota. * BLS Certification Pay or shift range: $21.62 USD to $32.44 USD Astera Health is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
