Position Statement The Infection Preventionist is a .6 position, working 24 hours per week and responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of an effective infection prevention program at North Country Hospital. This individual functions as a researcher and educator and provides direction and regulatory guidance in these focus areas. Key Responsibilities: Interacts in a positive and collaborative manner with a variety of administrative, clinical staff, Leadership and medical providers to develop, implement and maintain an effective infection prevention program at North Country Hospital. Manages Infection Control Program with oversight from the Infection Tissue and Transfusion Committee (ITT) and Senior Director of healthcare Quality. Provides direction to hospital staff regarding infection prevention and control, and when needed, leads the development and implementation of care plans for patients and families for prevention or management of infections Develops and implements staff and patient education specific to the areas of infection prevention and management, and employee health and safety. Performs surveillance and maintains records of Health Care Associated Infections (HAIs), epidemiologically significant organisms, and other findings consistent with current guidelines. Demonstrates professional commitment through membership in committees, conducting research as indicated and proactively pursues education to maintain currency in relevant regulations and best practices. Communicates as needed with appropriate state, county, and local health agencies regarding communicable diseases Is cross trained with the Employee Health nurse to provide back up as needed and in coordinating the employee annual influenza immunization program and other duties as indicated. Maintains current policies for Infection Prevention in accordance with current standards, regulations and best practices Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: BSN preferred or will consider Med Tech (MT) with significant Infection Prevention experience. Current Vermont RN license, or MT Three recent years hospital nursing or MT Previous infection control experience desirable, Certification in Infection Control preferred. Education through APIC is expected within 6 months to a year of hire date, if not currently Certified in Infection Control Certification in Infection Control expected within 3-4 years of hire Demonstrated abilities to multi-task and work well under pressure with a variety of stakeholders Basic computer skills and willingness to increase use of computer programs/software as available.
