Overview The PRN Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) provides both direct and indirect nursing care to patients requiring emergency medical services. This role requires a thorough understanding of departmental and hospital policies related to the delivery of emergency care, ensuring safe, timely, and effective treatment. Strong interpretive, critical‑thinking, and problem‑solving skills are essential, as the position involves frequent interaction, collaboration, and consultation with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members. This PRN role includes a commitment of one shift biweekly, one weekend per month, and coverage of one summer holiday and one winter holiday, supporting the dynamic needs of the Emergency Department while maintaining scheduling flexibility. Responsibilities - Assessment & Prioritization - Performs accurate and thorough patient assessments to determine clinical needs and prioritize care appropriately. - Conducts risk assessments to identify potential complications and initiates timely interventions. - Specimen Collection & Processing - Collects correct and adequate blood and urine specimens as ordered by physicians, following proper techniques and safety procedures. - Accurately labels specimens and completes all required processing steps to ensure integrity and traceability. - Ensures appropriate and timely delivery of specimens to the laboratory, coordinating courier transport or outside‑agency pickup when required. - Documentation & Communication - Maintains clear, complete, and timely documentation in accordance with departmental and regulatory standards. - Communicates effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members to support safe and coordinated care. - Clinical Problem‑Solving - Applies strong problem‑solving skills to evaluate situations, identify issues, and implement effective solutions in a fast‑paced environment. - Equipment Operation & Skill Proficiency - Operates clinical equipment safely and competently, ensuring proper function and reporting malfunctions promptly. - Maintains proficiency in required clinical procedures and adheres to established standards of practice. - Medication Safety - Demonstrates safe medication practices, including accurate administration, monitoring, and adherence to all medication safety protocols. - Teamwork & Initiative - Works collaboratively within the healthcare team, promoting a positive and supportive work environment. - Demonstrates initiative by anticipating needs, taking proactive steps to support workflow, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts. Qualifications - Minimum of one year of Emergency Department or Critical Care experience required. - Ability to perform CPR in accordance with current clinical standards. - Completion of Baby Friendly Education within 6 months of hire. - PALS certification required within 6 months of hire. - TNCC certification required within 1 year of hire. - EPIC Preferred Credentials - RN - Registered Nurse - BLS - Basic Life Saving certification - ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support - NIH - Stroke Certification Education - Graduate of an accredited nursing school Other Information Entry USD $36.20/Hr. Max USD $59.73/Hr.
