The Operating Room Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the operating room (OR) environment. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong communication skills and a commitment to patient safety and satisfaction.  Under the guidance of the registered nurse, is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and patient flow as a member of the Operating Room Team. Responsibilities - Assist in preparing the operating room for surgical procedures by ensuring all equipment, instruments, and supplies are sterilized and readily available (correct OR table, back table(s), mayo stand(s), prep table, kick buckets, trash/laundry containers with liners, etc) - Assist in preparing patients for surgery by helping them into the operating room, positioning them on the surgical table, and ensuring their comfort and safety. Verify patient identity, surgical site, and procedure with the surgical team. - Aid surgeons and nurses during surgical procedures by assisting with assembly of specialty surgical tables, restocking of supplies for the OR, Anesthesia Department, and PACU. - Assist in transferring patients from the operating room to the recovery area, ensuring they are stable and comfortable. - Assist in the cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies. Follow established protocols for infection control and instrument handling to ensure patient safety. - Maintain accurate records of surgical procedures, patient care activities, and supply usage. Communicate effectively with members of the surgical team to ensure smooth coordination and continuity of care. - Performs messenger/runner duties appropriately--medication pick-up and delivery from Pharmacy, accomplish errands as directed by the OR Desk RN or department PCC, retrieval of blood products as per established guidelines, delivery of special circumstances surgical specimens--Frozen Section, Fresh Exam, C & S, etc.--to Pathology. Adhere to infection control protocols and hospital policies and procedures to maintain a safe and sanitary environment for patients and staff Qualifications - Previous environmental services or sterilization experience preferred. - Ability to interface with public and communicate in a positive and professional manner. - Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment - Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
