Position Summary The Lead Medical Assistant serves as a clinical lead resource within the Rural Health Clinic while continuing to perform all duties of the Medical Assistant II role, including provider scribe support and direct patient care responsibilities. Working under general supervision, the Lead Medical Assistant helps coordinate daily clinic operations, supports efficient patient flow, assists with workflow coordination, and provides guidance, training, and orientation to Medical Assistant and Front Desk staff. This position partners closely with clinic leadership to promote consistent workflows, operational efficiency, and a high-quality patient experience. This is a lead position and does not include supervisory authority. The Lead Medical Assistant does not have responsibility for hiring, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, or other personnel decisions.
Key Responsibilities Perform all duties of the Medical Assistant II position, including direct patient care and provider support. Serve as a lead resource for Medical Assistant staff during daily clinic operations. Support efficient patient flow, room utilization, and provider workflow. Develop and coordinate Medical Assistant and Front Desk staff schedules to ensure appropriate daily coverage. Coordinate orientation, onboarding, training, and ongoing competency support for new and existing Medical Assistant and Front Desk staff. Reinforce standardized clinical and administrative workflows to promote consistency across the clinic. Assist with implementation of new workflows, policies, procedures, and electronic health record (EHR) system updates. Perform medical scribe functions by documenting provider-directed patient encounters in the electronic health record in accordance with established protocols. Monitor clinic readiness by assisting with exam room preparation, supply management, and workflow continuity. Support completion and accuracy of patient intake, authorizations, referrals, and clinical documentation. Identify workflow barriers or operational issues and communicate recommendations to clinic leadership. Serve as a liaison between providers, staff, and leadership to facilitate communication and resolve operational concerns. Escalate clinical, operational, or patient care concerns to management when appropriate. Promote teamwork, professionalism, accountability, and exceptional customer service. Maintain compliance with District policies, HIPAA requirements, infection prevention standards, and regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications Minimum of two (2) years of Medical Assistant experience. Current Medical Assistant certification. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification.
