Emergency Department Technician Department: Emergency DeptHours: 36.00 per weekShift: EveningsWork Schedule: 1000-2230 x 3 times a weekWeekend Requirement: Every Other Weekend Position SummaryThe primary function of the Emergency Department Technician “ED Tech” is to assist in the care of all Emergency Department patients and patient care duties under the direction of the registered nurse. The ED technician has key duties and responsibilities as listed below.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesProvides basic life support to patients of all ages in the emergency department setting, respecting their age-specific/developmental needs, gender, culture, religion, psychosocial and socioeconomic backgrounds.Provides prompt and courteous attention to the needs of patient’s, families, and visitors.Assists with assessment and monitoring of patients by applying monitoring devices and obtaining vital signs every hour. Reports results to RN and documents in medical record.Assists in activities of daily living with patients including dressing/undressing, eating, toileting and ambulation.Ensures patient and staff safety when assisting with care of all patients, utilizing skills to de-escalate situations, asking for additional resources when patients and or families become angry/agitated and or aggressive.Providing constant observation and/or one to one observation of patients under the direction of the clinical staff. Maintains an awareness of the department and responds promptly to patient call alarms and monitor alarms.Performs CPR and ventilation assistance under the direction of the RN and ED provider.Assists with setting up oxygen delivery systems - including but not limited to Hi flow O2, ventilator, and aerogen.Performs: EKGs, Point-of-Care testing. Obtains urine and blood specimens including blood cultures. Assists with application of orthopedic splints including ace wraps, knee immobilizers and crutches. Performs stocking and organizing according to department proceduresMaintains knowledge of and operates equipment used in patient care safely.Maintains a safe, clean, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients.Covers clinical secretary duties during meal breaks or during absence of coverage.Adheres to all Core Values (Compassion, Pursue Excellence, Cooperation and Collaboration, Upholds Honesty, and Supports Innovation).Adheres to all policies, procedures and Absolutes (Privacy and Confidentiality, Professional Appearance, and Responsibility and Commitment). Other job related duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalentBasic Life Support (BLS)CNA with acute care setting experience, or third year BSN student will be consideredPreferred Qualifications: Current and active EMT certificationThe ideal candidate would possess a strong work ethic, good organizational skills, multitasking, excellence in customer service, ability to work well on a team and strong communication skills.
