SUMMARY: The Senior Financial Analyst- GME reports to the Director of Physician Affairs. Under general supervision and within Hospital policies and procedures, manages data retrieval, report generation, maintenance of statistics, and financial analysis in the Department of Graduate Medical Education. The core Success Factors include: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES: Independently prepares financial, time and attendance, and quality data analyses for administrative and GME program directors, quality improvement staff, physicians, and other hospital managers. Manages all aspects of the IRIS reporting within the Department’s Residency Management System. Conducts system testing and implementation of system enhancements and updates. Responsible for ensuring accurate information is submitted to CMS. Serves as an educational resource to other staff in the Department and all GME programs in utilizing the Residency Management System. Trains new Program Coordinators in utilizing the Residency Management System. Manages onboarding and terminations of all inbound rotating GME trainees to Brown University Health Hospitals. Responsible for monthly affiliate billing for all GME programs. Responsible for payment of departmental invoices and other payments as appropriate. Identifies customer needs, evaluates available financial reports and recommends or develops necessary additional custom reports Responds to inquiries regarding information accuracy. Investigates potential inadequacies of financial reporting and assists in developing, when possible, more efficient and accurate methods for capturing necessary information. Uses spreadsheets, relational databases, and other software which may require merging data from multiple sources, to enter, organize, and analyze data. Downloads information from a variety of sources to build and maintain databases for the department. Develops and prepares various standard and ad hoc reports for the department. Completes special analyses and projects as needed. Interprets, explains and clarifies financial and statistical data produced. In consideration of the purpose and audience, determines appropriate presentation format, develops and consolidates materials and information into graphs, charts, tables, PowerPoint slides, etc. Assists Director in the creation of annual revenue and expense budgets. Provides monthly budget vs. actual expense reports and analysis. Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, health care administration, or related field. Strong understanding of health care finance and hospital financial systems. EXPERIENCE: Three - Five years’ experience in a health care environment, with exposure to medical education and/or finance. Experience performing financial and quantitative analyses. Strong understanding of graduate medical education preferred. Proficiency in the use of microcomputers and a variety of spreadsheet and database applications, specifically Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Access. Knowledge and ability to download and merge information from a variety of sources. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed in a typical office environment requiring extended periods of sitting. Visual acuity to view computer screen for long periods of time and finger dexterity to enter data on a computer keyboard. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None.
