Love what you do; Love where you liveThe Student Intern is an observer that is introduced to specific healthcare career(s) through the supervised observation of a healthcare provider. Interns will have the chance to observe healthcare professionals and learn about various medical procedures. Our values ask for a deeper level of commitment, and what is asked of us we freely give because we believe in our mission.RequiredQualifications:Students must be at least sixteen (16) years oldStudents must be exploring careers in healthcare, allied health or hospital services.Two (2) MMR Immunizations OR a positive MMR titerA PPD current within the last twelve (12) monthsWritten documentation of chicken pox OR immune varicella titer OR documentation of two (2) varicella vaccinesFlu shot for current year (if shadowing/observing anytime during the months of October through March)TB test within 30 daysDuties and Responsibilities:Program faculty or appropriately trained staff will provide oversight of all student activitiesStudents are not permitted to perform any patient care activity or perform skills that have not been validated first in the academic settingAll students are responsible for implementing SJRMC’s Service Standards into their activitiesAdministrative Support:Assist with general office tasks such as filing, photocopying, data entry, and answering phones.Observation:Observe healthcare professionals in their daily duties, including doctors, nurses, and technicians.Shadowing:Shadow healthcare professionals in various departments to gain firsthand experience.Patient Services: Greet and assist patients and visitorsSpecial Projects:Assist with special projects or initiatives as needed.  Additional duties as assignedPhysical Demands and Environmental Work Conditions:Requirements may vary based on the position:Light to heavy liftingMoving equipmentPeriods of bending, stooping, pushing, walking, kneeling, twisting, squatting, standing, and sitting may be requiredStudents in clinical areas may be exposed to hazardous chemicals, anesthetic agents, blood, body fluids and waste, and potential pathogens
